Wow. On page 2 of Aftershock by Jill Sorenson, an 8.5 earthquake hits San Diego and our characters are trapped by a freeway collapse. The compelling action in this book is consistent all the way to the end. It kept my attention throughout. The depth of thought on the hero’s psyche  is very impressive and well done. Bottom line: really enjoyed this book and will quickly look for more by this author. I won this book from a contest.

By: Jill Sorenson Published By: Harlequin HQN Age Recommended: Adult Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: 5 Blog For: GMTA Series: Aftershock #1 Review: "Aftershock" by Jill Sorenson was a first in a series that kept me on the edge of my seat...I could not put it down. With its suspense and romantic edge you are kept captivated until the end. This all starts out with a horrible earthquake at hits San Diego and a paramedic Lauren Boyer is trapped under a collapsed freeway. In her search she comes across a former marine, Garrett Wright and together they form a camp with a few other survivors. Soon they become confronted by three escaped, with weapons and dangerous convicts who threaten their lives. How will this come out? Will there be something going on between Garret and Lauren romantically? The secondary characters between Owen and Penny were interesting. I found for the most part of the novel the characters were well developed and colorful. This is where I say you must pick up "Aftershock" to see how this author is able to get this delivered to the reader. Be ready for a romance with 'no hearts and flowers, hard core with convicts and a survival and death and yes, there will be hope and love within all of this despair.' If you are in for a good read with pulse-pounding action packed you have come to the right place for "Aftershock" will give it to you and I would recommend this read.

In the midst of an earthquake... at the epicenter, nearly everyone remaining was dead. Of the few still there only two thirds survive but not  without injury. This traumatic experience forces each of them face to face with themselves. Strong men and women; this battle for survival is not for the faint of heart. Success is only possible for those who really want it and are willing to fight for what they want.  I know I will be following this author for the rest of her series.

4.5 stars Jill Sorenson is one really good author. On the paper this book had nothing to get me excited and yet... I loved it very very much. I enjoyed the secondary storyline / "romance" involving Owen and Penny just as much as I enjoyed the main one. I always do with SR books. She always includes a B story and I always get hooked instantly. All the characters in this book were very interesting which turns out to be very frustrating... can't wait tor read the other book in this great series.

Boring!!! I just gave 3 stars because I liked the end, but over all it was really slow and I skipped many pages. I was tired to see Lauren throwing herself at Garret all the time. I bought it because of the great reviews and was disapointted with it.

I really liked this one; however, I have to say that the cover model--who I assume is supposed to be Garrett?--doesn't fit my mental image of him. At. All. Although cover guy does have lovely abs, he's not nearly big enough to be the Garrett we read descriptions of in the book. But I digress.... Jill Sorenson did a fantastic job of world-building on this one. The post-earthquake "cave" that Lauren, Garrett, and company find themselves in is very gritty, real, and terrifying. She had me believing in it 100%. I shared the horror of being trapped down there and almost believed I was right beside Lauren as she tried to save the injured and with Garrett as he tried to climb to safety. I was pretty sure I knew what Garrett's "secret" was fairly early on, and ended up being (mostly) okay with it. I could see how those particular circumstances might have occurred, and the eventual solution to his problem--though of course convenient--was still believable. The only real sticky part for me was how fast the two main characters came to the "I love you" conclusion; then again, extreme circumstances and all that. I was more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt since I really did want them to be together. All in all, this was a pulse-pounding, action-packed read. The teaser at the end already has me looking forward to her next book, too!

Not quit believable plot, but truly believable characters. Love all her books, especially like the background love stories usually about yunger people just discovering life and love. Please keep writting!

This is the first book I've read by this author, and i loved it from the first page to the last. The only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because i wish it was longer...not that it was rushed. It was just so good i didn't want it to end. It was exciting...emotional and satisfying. Highly recommended. -taytesmommy

Aftershock by Jill Sorenson 4 STARS It's full of drama, action and scary. The reason its scary is it could happen anywhere anytime. Thier is also romance, heroes and bad guys. Lots of love scenes too. When I had read the back of the book I wondered how thier could be so much when they were stuck under the freeway after a earthquake. But thier is a big area that is blocked by the 8.5 earthquake interchange in CA. Lauren Boyer is a emergency paramedic and her partner are on the freeway when the earthquake began parts of the freeway fell. Then a big aftershock came more freeway rose and crashed and her partner was killed. Thier was alot of death, mangled cars, fires. Lauren hears a voice asking in anyone is alive. Garrett Wright is former Irag veteran. He helps Lauren grab first aid supplies and they look for other survivors. One of the first they find is Penny a pregnant teenager trapped in the car. Her Aunt did not make it. Penny's baby is due in two weeks. They find a RV with grandfather Donald Creswell and his grandaughter Cadence. He has some food and water. Thier is a guy who is in a coma, a women who is badly hurt. They find other supplies in some cars. They find two guys in the back of a pickup drinking beer along with a 3 guy who is hurt. They stack the dead bodies in a corner covering with a tarp. That night Lauren is asleep when someone attacks her and tries to rape her. Lauren makes enough sound that Garret hears her and is beating the guy up and another guy has a gun and threatens to shoot Lauren if Garret does not let him up. Garrett feels guilty that Lauren got hurt. He feels he should have told her that they were prisoners that escaped prison van. That makes two groups and the prisoners have a gun and are not afraid to use it. They can't get out and all the different cell phones they found don't have service. Thier is a lot tension and short supplies are a big worry. I did not want to put down the book till I was finshed. I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest reviews from Netgalley. 12/18/2012 PUB Harlequin HQN 384 pages ISBN-10: 0373777329
