About the Author

A graduate of the University of Florida and Iowa State University, Gale Buchanan is a former Chief Scientist and Undersecretary for Research, Education, and Economics in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He is a former dean and director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, and dean and director emeritus of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. He retired as a colonel from the Alabama Army National Guard after 34 years of military service. Among his last assignments was commandant of the Alabama Military Academy. He is the co-author of Leadership in Agriculture: Case Studies for a New Generation, and author of Feeding the World: Agricultural Research in the Twenty-first Century, and Branch Research Stations in Agriculture: History, Development, Operation, and Future. Gale resides with his wife Carol in Adel, Georgia, and has a farm near Pinetta, Florida.
