About the Author

Prof. T.Arumugam, has served more than 32 years in varying capacities as teacher, researcher and administrator at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. He has obtained B.Sc. (Hort.), M.Sc. (Hort.) and Ph.D from TNAU and undergone higher trainings viz., Postharvest technology of fruits at IARI, New Delhi and Postharvest technology of vegetables at University of California, Davis, USA besides attended more than 30 National / International conferences and trainings. He had operated more than 24 projects to the tune of Rs.1817 lakh and have guided 12 M.Sc., and 8 Ph.D., students and also mentor for 2 Post-Doctoral Fellow. He is a trained vegetable breeder and Postharvest specialist and has developed many vegetable varieties and technologies. Standardized the agro- technologies viz., year-round production of Chrysanthemum, Identification of the best rootstock for cut roses, Wax coating for shelf-life extension in banana, Standardization of media for anthurium and orchids, technology for polyhouse cultivation of tomato, capsicum, rose and chrysanthemum, Micro propagation protocol for important medical and aromatic plants like rosemary, thyme, feverfew and sarpaganda. He has involved in the commercial production and popularization of brinjal graft which is having high yield and resistant against soil borne diseases. He has published more than 310 researches and popular articles in peer reviewed national and international journals and written more than 22 books for the benefits of students and budding research scholars. He had organized more than 17 trainings, workshop and one ICAR short course in vegetable crops. He has motivated many rural youths to start agri / horti business through many skill trainings and motivational lectures. He has received many awards from reputed organisations. Many state of art facilities for education and research has been created at various Institutes, he had served earlier. He has served as Head of Research Centre and Dean of Agricultural College, Head of the Department of Vegetable Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore. Currently, he is serving as Dean faculty of Horticultural College and Research Institute, (TNAU) Periyakulam, Tamil Nadu.
