Ahead of the Darkness by Simone Nicole

It has been a long, long time since I’ve seen your little face, chérie. Not once did you visit. That really hurt; after all, it was thanks to you I was convicted. That’s not something you forget.

I thought it was time— a visit was due. Seeing as you wouldn’t come to me, I thought it only right I come to you. Sadly, you weren’t home, but your furry feline was more than accommodating . . .

I’ll be seeing you soon, mon chérie. I’ll always find you . . .

For six years, a letter has dictated Amelia’s future. She’s running from a past that refuses to stop, always trying to get one step ahead. Amelia is clever and resilient, and refuses to slip up.

Relying only on herself, she’ll be anything and anyone she needs to survive. But everyone slips up . . . eventually. You can’t always stay ahead of the darkness

Great read, couldn't put it down. Intriguing characters, great humour, hot sex scenes even a few teary moments without the usual cliches. Very well done for a first book. Looking forward to the next instalment!

There rarely is a book I like enough to write a review, but this is one. Throughout this book I kept waiting for "the other shoe to drop" and kept falling more in love with Drew and Mia/Amelia, so when it happened I actually gasped out loud. And then it ended! I need more! Alas, the next book is not available at B&N, at least not yet. We can only hope to see it soon. Okay, you have to be willing to overlook some mis-spelled words and sloppy editing but there are not enough to detract from the story. I've read books that are far worse written by more mainstream authors, so I forgive Ms. Nicole and offer my services as a proofreader/copy editor. Seriously, this is a very good, albeit short, story. I hope you get caught up in it the way I did. You won't be sorry.

A girl on the run, Amelia, or Mia as she prefers to be called, has been on the run for most of her life. She recently moved to a town in England. She shows up as a transfer student and is just settling in when she has a run in with a sexy Scottish man. This is a dark story with many twists and turns, and it works. I love the way there is mystery in who is chasing Mia until just the right moment. The heat between Mia and Drew is tangible. She didn't have them give in at the first moment possible, but drew it out until it was the right time, making the moment perfect. Their relationship was believable. They developed trust and a friendship first, before they became more. I really liked both Mia and Drew. Though his accent was difficult to read at times and sometimes kept me from really getting into the scene at hand, but the more I read the book the easier it was. This is a story about a girl overcoming all odds to be free of her past. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This book was an amazing read and it went by quickly. I adored the characters and can not wait for the next book. Although I was a little confused at the end but I think I figured it out after I read it a couple of times. That is my only complaint and other than that it was fab.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. First off, let’s start out with all the technical stuff.  This book was very well-written and easy-to-read.  It kept my attention from beginning to end.  I read it in one sitting.   That’s done, now onto the fun part.  I really enjoyed this book.  I read the blurb and was instantly intrigued.  I needed to read this book.  I was disappointed.  I was expecting a darker, more suspenseful read.  The first roughly 90% was a love story.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love romance books.  I was just expecting more suspense.  The last 10% definitely kept me hooked, and the ending left me wanting more.  I will be watching closely for the next book.  Mia, Amelia, is always on the run.  She never stays in one place long.  She’s running from a monster.  Drew is a sexy Scot, he even has a kilt.  He also has ghosts in his past.  Drew helps Mia to overcome her fears and start living life instead of always running.  Neither one wanted or expected the love they formed for each other.  So, overall, even though I was a tad disappointed, I still loved this book.   4-Bombs Reviewed by Tracy

"Have ye ever wondered what a true Scotsman wears under his kilt?" We begin the story knowing that Mia is on the run from something. Slowly, from her thoughts and actions and through flashbacks, we find out most of her history. She's been on the run for a very long time, never making true connections or settling anywhere. We don't know much about Drew except that he has a Scottish background. He is the owner of a local bar, and has many friends in the community. Also he's a great lover. There is something in Drew which finally opens up a part of Mia that has always been closed. Even though we mostly tend to focus on figuring out her situation in this book, I feel there is a lot to Drew that we don't know. He always gives "knowing" looks. Sometimes his accent is different. I don't believe that he is bad or that he doesn't have genuine feelings for her. I just think there is something "more" to him than being just a bar owner (and sexy love god). I do think he is going to save her no matter what.
