Air War over North Vietnam: The Vietnamese People's Air Force 1949-1975 based on 0 ratings. 1 reviews.
For all the people interested in aerial warfare over Vietnam, this is a answer for our prays!: a serious and impartial view to the North Vietnamese side. The huge work made by Hungarian historian Dr. Itsvan Toperczer includes dozens of good quality pictures never seen in Western countries before, and finally allowed us to know the face of the VPAF pilots that could succesfully challenge the greatest and powerfull air force of the world. Of course, the book mentions facts that perhaps never will be confirmed (specially the claims of shootdowns made by VPAF MiG-17, MiG-19 and MiG-21 pilots), but it provides an starting point where the serious historians could work (solving cases of aircraft and pilots lost due to unknown reasons from both sides) and it will allow to determine the actual achievements of the fighting pilots, either US and Vietnamese. The book shows a lack of personal accounts of VPAF pilots, and Dr.Toperczer do not perform a match between VPAF and USAF/USN/USMC sources. But due to the great amount of personal interviews with VPF pilots and commanders, it's logic to assumme that those lacks will be solved in future works of him. I highly recommend to read that book, specially to the people who is familiar with Vietnam's aerial warfare, even when somebody not familiar with it will enjoy it too.
