I have been meaning to get this book for a very very long time, as I heard good things about it from a friend. Once I got it and started reading, I could not put it down. The book is very well researched, it is obvious that the author took the task seriously and went through records and accounts meticulously, but what really raised the book above other similar ones is the highly entertaining style, which makes it an easy, yet compelling read. I had a mighty good time reading it, and it is also a very revealing book. Reading about America`s past drinking habits and how that changed over time explains a lot about our present society as well. Read it, you will not be disappointed.

The best non-fiction book I have ever read. I would even recommend this book to someone who does not like to read history. It was very interesting.

i found it shocking how americans can be so self indulgent. its amazing to see how many drunks we once had back then, and how you can compare it to today. still to this day, after all that we know of the harmful effects alcohol has on us, we still indulge ourselves with the sweet liquid. weird
