Alec (Slater Brothers, #2) by L.A. Casey

*Book #2 in the Slater Brothers series.*

Keela Daley is the black sheep of her family. She has always come second to her younger cousin Micah. Even in the eyes of her mother, Micah shone bright, and Keela faded to black. Now, in adulthood, Micah is a bride-to-be and the spotlight is solely on her. Keela is a low priority...or so she thinks.

Alec Slater is a bachelor, never one to bed the same woman, or man, twice. He is a free agent who does what he pleases and answers to no one; that is until a fiery Irish redhead with a temper to match her hair colour knocks him on his arse. Literally.

She hates to admit it, but Keela needs a favour from the cocky Slater brother, a huge favour. She needs him to not only escort her to Micah's wedding, but to also pose as her boyfriend. Alec agrees to help Keela, but has certain conditions for her to abide by. He wants her body and plans to have it before anyone can say I do.

What he doesn't plan on is losing his heart as well as the possibility of losing his family when someone from his past threatens his future.

Alec owns Keela, and what Alec owns, Alec keeps.

This book is good, it could have been great and five stars with just a few changes. I actually loved the characters and was surprised how much i loved alec as alec's previous job and sexuality was something i wasnt sure i was comfortable with. But he was so easy to fall for. Keela on the other hand just had too much "bronagh" in her the first half of the book. It dragged on and on with her acting like she wasnt into him demonstrating that by acting like a toddler with temper tantrums. Dont get me wrong, i love tension, i love bickering, but theres a balance that needs to be maintained in order to have that amazing sexual tension good characters and stories have, they ultimately have to get along and like each other in order for it to work and be believable. The "ringer"/surprise was beyond devastating and horrific to read and my heart broke for keela. In saying that, i still would not have changed that part, i would have strung their separation apart a bit longer, shortened the over long first half of the book where she "hated" him, and made their makeup harder to get to so it all seemed more realistic and believable for a Hea that the reader loves. The author got to the hea, but just got there too fast. I did love this book in the end, i just wish the female characters in this series had a bit more control of their temper tantrums.

I really loved the first book...and I'm so disappointed . This was so terrible to read the characters were weak and annoying the bickering was pointless and what Alec end up doing is sick ..they have no chemistry what so ever even their love seen was terrible..

When I first started reading Alec, I wasn't sure what to expect as I didn't read the first one in the series. However, I was definitely intrigued by the synopsis of the book, and L.A. Casey has an amazing fan following. It took me a while to get used to the difference/slang that the Irish use compared to the American versions, but I definitely enjoyed the different style. I absolutely love the work of Sophia Kinsella and other European authors, so I was definitely pleased with L.A. Casey. Alec is such a different book out there - you get a bit of romance, a bit Of laughter and bit of sinfully delightful sex - and hot sex. Readers beware that there is a MAJOR twist towards the end of the book that came out of left field ... and had my jaw wide open ... L.A. Casey knows how to keep her reader wanting more and delivers with sinfully sexy characters who know how to deliver the goods .... Casey is amazing writer and I can't wait to read more from the Slater Brother Series. A definite must read and addition to your To-Be-Read Shelf

I received this book from the author as part of the blog tour in return for a fair and honest review. Although I found certain parts of the drama of Dominic tiring, I was looking forward to reading Alec because he is part of the Slater Brothers and I think that they are fantastic. Alec's story picks up 3 years or so after Dominic and you will find out more about Dominic and Bronagh as you read through. Keela is Micah's cousin and is marrying Jason Bane (Bronagh's school bully). Keela also has her own reasons to hate him and doesn't get on with Micah either. So her friend, Aideen, comes up with a 'plan' for Keela to make it through the wedding with as much ease as possible. Alec then enters the scene and their story kicks off. The mouth on Keela often had me laughing as she has a quick wit and isn't afraid to use it, much to Alec's detriment as he often ended up on the receiving end! Their relationship was all good and moving along until something that happens at the wedding. I won't give away any spoilers but it was at this point when my interest started to wane. I like twists and turns in books because it helps to keep a reader interested but when it reaches the point where you are almost reading "double-speak" like in George Orwell's '1984' and you have no idea who is say what and why but just knowing that most of what you're reading is lies, it kind of loses me. Perhaps I can also hold a grudge too well but for Keela to forgive after what happened... well, she's a better person than me because there is no way that I would just have wiped the slate clean after that! I am giving this book 4 stars because I really enjoyed the majority of the story and finding out more about the Slater brothers in general. This book does need some serious editing though as there are numerous errors in it. If you are able to carry on reading as you auto-correct what you are reading then you'll be fine.

Some eyebrow raising twists in this one. You have to have a very open mind to accept everything that happens. All in all a sweet and different romance between two damaged individuals.
