Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Piano Course, Bk 1: Book & CD / Edition 1

Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course is designed for use with an instructor for the beginning student looking for a truly complete piano course. It is a greatly expanded version of Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course that will include lesson, theory, and technique in a convenient, "all-in-one" format. This comprehensive course adds such features as isometric hand exercises, finger strengthening drills, and written assignments that reinforce each lesson's concepts. There is a smooth, logical progression between each lesson, a thorough explanation of chord theory and playing styles, and outstanding extra songs, including folk, classical, and contemporary selections. At the completion of this course, the student will have learned to play some of the most popular music ever written and will have gained a good understanding of basic musical concepts and styles. I've only been playing for 3 MONTHS and I've already gotten through this book and not only can I play the songs but I play correctly and can pick up on songs from other sources quickly because this book teaches you what you really need to know and does it well. I never thought playing piano could be so EASY!

This is the perfect book for me. I have taken piano for about 8 months now and I am almost through learning this book. It starts out teaching simple versions of songs most people know. My 5 & 3 year old were singing along to some of the songs the first time I played them! I am 28 and this book makes you feel like you are learning fast. I think you could teach yourself from this book if you have any concept of reading music but it would be better to have a teacher or someone who knows piano to help out. I have been teaching my 9 year old niece from it also, she is doing really well with it too but it is a little slower learning for her.

I have never played the piano. We got one for my daughters to learn to play and I decided to teach myself using this book. To my surprise it worked. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. There is a nice mix of pieces as you move through the book.
