Edward John Thompson, a young English poet and Wesleyan missionary, wrote the first major English-language critical study of Tagore's poetry. This study by E.P. Thompson draws on his father's extensive collection of letters and journals to throw light on the unusual relationship between the two men and, by extension, between British and Bengali culture.
