Set in rural Georgia in 1941 a family's dynamics are drastically changed by the discovery of a tiny newborn female, affectionately named Alista Jane, by Mary Lu Simmons, a kind-hearted wife and a mother of four adolescent boys. A cloud of hopelessness looms over Alista, even before she's old enough to realize it. In the span of seven years she's twice abandoned-ripped from all she knew family to be. Estranged in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by orphans, she wonders if happiness will ever be found. Years pass but fate held stern against her dreams. To Alista's surprise a ray of light pierced the looming cloud of hopelessness and brings a smile.
All the pain, shame, loneliness and feelings of unworthiness, is smothered by the love and dedication of her new guardians, Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence. Through their guidance and caring it leads Alista to a place that is in desperate need of an humanitarian, for the plight of the homeless. Can she face the challenge?
