At only ten songs, this Dolly Parton set, which features RCA hits from the late 1970s and early '80s, is on the brief side, and it only covers a tiny slice of her long career, and not necessarily the best stretch of that career, either, although Dolly is always Dolly, and if she didn't exist, someone would have to invent her to fill the void in country music. Don't expect "Jolene" or "Coat of Many Colors" here, or even the best songs she's written, but then there's nothing wrong with fare like "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right" or "Potential New Boyfriend," either. This same set in the same running order has been issued several times, including as 1997's Encore Collection and as the second disc of BMG's Columbia River edition called Greatest Hits from 1999.
