Ross, Kathy. (2006). All-girl crafts. Minneapolis: Millbrook Press. This book contains instructions for 22 crafts that will appeal to children in grades 3 to 6 who are interested in dolls and décor. The crafts include making an earring doll, an elegant bookmark, and a button buddy necklace. The instructions are very clear and easy to understand and follow. All of the crafts start with a list of materials needed, and next to each item is an attractive color drawing. Each step of the activity is labeled with a large number in color. Each instruction is simple but fully explains what needs to be done; drawings accompany the instructions with arrows and brief notes when necessary. This is an outstanding craft book for upper elementary students. The author has written more than 50 craft books and can be relied on for her expertise. Her activities are fully and clearly explained so that 3rd-6th graders will be able to do them without assistance from adults. They are structured and labeled well. Also, the set of 22 activities is comprehensive for the audience and range from bookmarks, picture frames, and stationery to jewelry and dolls. Finally, the book appeals to diverse groups of students since the illustrations of dolls include White dolls and dolls of color and do not use stereotypes in depicting the dolls of color.
