This whole album rendition of Hare Krishna Hare Rama is an exalted spiritual experience waiting to happen. Each movement of this four part work stands on its own: an introduction building to a summit, with a graceful close. Yet each of the first three movements leads to and is connected to the next. The instrumentation changes from one to the next, and each one takes the listener higher. The final movement is a total celebration, a fantastic dance party complete with a trumpet, flute, other instruments, and a near-calypso sounding tapestry of outstanding percussion. This album is the fulfillment of my wish to have an extended chant with Krishna Das, and so much more. Its ebbs and flows, builds in multiple dimensions, and then relaxes. The result is a great work that leads the listener on an odyssey, exploring the many emotions of life, the many ways and times in which we call out to God. It’s well worth participating in this chant with Krishna Das, the sublime Kirtan Wala. As George Harrison said, “Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait.” This album is a rewarding step forward in that great search.
