Overview

All Signs Point to Murder by Connie di Marco

The stars predict a wedding-day disaster, but San Francisco astrologer Julia Bonatti never expected murder.

Julia Bonatti is alarmed by the astrological signs looming over Geneva Leary's wedding day, but nobody asked Julia's opinion and being a bridesmaid means supporting the bride no matter what. Even with the foreboding Moon-Mars-Pluto lineup in the heavens, no one's prepared for the catastrophes that strike: a no-show sister, a passed-out wedding planner, and a lethal shooting in the dead of night.

With anger and grief threatening to tear the Leary family apart, Julia is determined to understand how such a terrible tragedy could have occurred. As she digs deeper into the family's secrets, her astrological insights lead her to some rather unexpected conclusions.

All Signs Point to Murder is the second book in the Zodiac Mystery series by Connie di Marco. Julia Bonatti is a professional astrologer. She is a bridesmaid in her friend Geneva’s wedding. While Julia has misgivings, due to astrological signs, about the wedding she does everything she can to support her friend. Mishaps begin – a missing bridesmaid, a wedding planner that collapses on the dance floor, and then the shooting of Geneva – the missing bridesmaid and the sister of the bride. I thought that by taking place in San Francisco that was able to give the story an element of a busy city setting. Julia talked about having problems finding a parking space, and having visited the area, it really gave a real element to the book. The book had plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing as to the identity of the murderer. Well, I did read the first in the series; I don’t think it is necessary to have read it to enjoy this book. Also, a complete understanding of astrology isn’t needed to follow the story either. I thought there was less astrology terminology in the second book than the first. The book was very well written, just the right pace and the author wrote a great mystery with well-defined characters. I’m hoping that there will be a third and more in this series. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Julia.

All Signs Point to Murder by Connie di Marco is the second book in her Zodiace Mystery series. Julia Bonatti served as a bridesmaid at her friend Geneva's wedding. After the ceremony and reception, she plans to stay with her friends to avoid a trip back to San Francisco. However, during the night she is awakened by gunshots, but when she goes downstairs she finds her friend's sister, Moira, has been shot. When the shooting turns fatal, Julia joins with her friends to discover out who had the motive, and the means to kill Moira. I genuinely enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. This is a sweet and intriguing story which kept me on my toes until I reached the end. Ms. Di Marco created a wonderful mystery that drew me in and did not let go until I turned the last page, feeling as if I was there, watching the events unfold. I highly recommend this book to other readers and hope to read additional books in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book

4.5 stars rounded up. This is a delightfully fun book to read! It is the second in the Zodiac Mystery series and I get the feeling that if I'd read the series in order, I might understand a couple of things a little better, but this time I don't feel like that detracted from the book or diminished my ability to enjoy it. Our heroine, Julia, is great. For the most part, while she lets her emotions get her into bad situations at times, she doesn't seem to go deliberately looking for trouble. She might ask questions and talk to people, but she's not out there deliberately putting herself in harm's way most of the time (tho' harm's way finds her, unfortunately). I enjoyed the supporting characters as well. I'd like to see more of Gail and Cheryl in the next book, but I realize they weren't really part of this particular story line. Speaking of story lines, this one was fantastic! There were enough red herrings to keep me from accurately guessing the person until right near the end. Even then, I wasn't positive I was right until the climax of the book. The prose flowed well and the pace was steady, but not too fast nor too slow. I could have used a little more setting descriptions, but I'd rather an author err on the side of being too cautious and not giving me enough description rather than being extra wordy about them. All in all, I highly recommend this book! I've already grabbed the first one in the series from my library and plan to indulge over the weekend! Enjoy!

You don’t have to be an astrologer to enjoy Connie di Marco’s Cozy Mystery “All Signs Point to Murder.” While this is the second in the series, I hadn’t read the first book yet, but I had no trouble picking up the characters and following the story. I will definitely read the first book as my interest is piqued. Julia Bonatti, astrologer, is fascinated with the connections between people in a relationship, and how the stars align, or don’t align, to determine how smooth or rocky the relationship will be. As a bridesmaid in her best friend’s wedding, she’s on hand to observe the bride’s family dynamics: who’s squabbling, who’s putting up a good front, but nothing prepares her for murder in the dead of night. One of the bride’s sisters is murdered in the garage of the oldest sister’s house. Suspects abound with the full house, and the bride asks her to look into the star charts of everyone involved in the wedding. Who would have been desperate enough to kill. This was a fascinating read, and I was hooked in the first chapter. Even having grown up with a family member who was an astrologer, I never really understood the science behind astrology, and just how it is relevant to someone’s life. With Ms. Di Marco’s writing, I have finally begun to understand how it works. The characters are well-written, the plot carefully constructed, the pacing is just right, and the perfect red-herrings are dropped in. I thought I knew who the murderer was, but was kept guessing to the end. The author’s voice is such that I was drawn into the story, so it really upped the suspense level for me. I’m very much looking forward to the next in the series as I’ve definitely become a fan of Ms. Di Marco!

Astrologer Julia Bonatti returns to sleuthing in the second book of the A Zodiac Mystery series, All Signs Point to Murder, by Connie di Marco. Disaster strikes on the night that Julia’s good friend Geneva gets married, and Julia is quickly caught up in the middle of a family tragedy. Julia disregards several warnings, and she finds herself agreeing to help her friend Geneva. Throughout the book, Julia uses astrology to learn about different members of Geneva’s family, and she hopes to learn what secrets might be hidden. Some of the specific astrology details were confusing to me, but I was unfamiliar with a few of the terms. However, Julia’s use of birth information to interpret chart readings was intriguing to me. As Julia unravels the mystery, I found myself not wanting to put the book down, especially when Julia ended up in some chilling situations. The author provided good descriptions of San Francisco that made me feel I was riding right along with Julia or hanging out with Julia and her friends. Julia’s character is likeable, but I feel there is still much to learn about her background. I am hoping more will be revealed in book three. I found this type of series to be a thrilling read from the typical cozy mystery, and I highly recommend A Zodiac Mystery series.

Connie di Marco's All Signs Point to Murder Julia Bonatti is an astrologer in the San Francisco area. Her best friend from college, Geneva Leary is getting married. Julia is one of her bridesmaids. The day for the wedding is not good in astrological signs but Julia hopes for the best. A missing bridesmaid who claims she was drugged, a wedding planner who collapses then later at the home of the bride's mother....a shooting. Genveva's youngest sister is shot. She dies in Julia's arms. Then Geneve's other sister is arrested and jailed for murder. Julia is requested to investigate by her friend. Astrological signs begin each chapter. This is an unique occupation for the main character for me. It was very interesting subject. The city of San Francisco was detailed throughout the book. This made the reader part of the story. The story begins quickly and keeps an invigorating pace to the very end. Plenty of mystery, twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes The Zodiac provides a tale of suspense, intrigue, murder, deceit, mystery, vivid characters, attempted murder in the sea, money laundering and drugs. The plot and subplots of this story was flawlessly thought out. This is book # 2 in the Zodiac Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I read this book first and will be getting the first. Highly recommended read!!! I volunteered to read the book. Thanks to the author and publisher via The Cozy Mystery Review Crew for the book. My opinion is my own.

All Signs Point to Murder by Connie di Marco is the second novel in A Zodiac Mystery series. Julia Bonatti is a bridesmaid in her friend, Geneva Leary’s wedding. The wedding is about to start, but no one can find Moira, Geneva’s sister. The wedding proceeds without the missing bridesmaid and goes off without a hitch. After the ceremony, Moira is found collapsed at the bottom of a set of stairs. She claims she was not drunk this time (sound suspicious). During the dancing, Sally Stark, the wedding planner, collapses on the dance floor. Moira states it was supposed to be her. Geneva’s marriage is starting off with a bang. Julia is sleeping at the Brooke Leary Ramer’s house when she hears shots ring out. She heads downstairs and Rob Ramer enters the house from the garage. Rob states he shot an intruder. Julia enters the garage and finds a hooded figure on the floor—it is Moira. Moira dies before reaching the hospital. Geneva asks Julia to investigate Moira’s death. Someone, though, does not appreciate Julia’s meddling. Julia uses her astrological knowledge to help her uncover the facts and determine what happened to Moira. Will the killer let her share her knowledge with the police or will Julia end up the next victim? All Signs Point to Murder may be the second book in A Zodiac Mystery series, but it can be read alone. All Signs Point to Murder is easy to read except for the astrological sections. The information provided is not written in a way for lay people to understand (the terms are not explained). It was gobbledygook to me. I do, though, like that Julia uses astrological information to solve crimes. It is unique. I just wish it was written in a way that was easier to understand (for people not familiar with astrology). The mystery is intriguing and slightly complex. Unfortunately, I identified the guilty parties (and the victim) before Moira was pronounced dead. I believe many readers, though, will be surprised. The reason why Moira was killed is what kept me reading. My rating for All Signs Point to Murder is 3 out of 5 stars. I do feel that the author included too much detail. Julia hunting for parking spots, walking instead of driving to avoid hunting for a parking spot (it must be difficult to park in San Francisco), the cost of parking in San Francisco, looking through each item in Moira’s apartment, the size of the goose egg on her head, etc. It was nice to see Cheryl (from The Madness to Mercury) get a happy outcome. Will I read the next book in A Zodiac Mystery series? I am undecided. It will depend on the mystery in the next installment.

All Signs Point to Murder: A Zodiac Mystery Author: Connie di Marco Publisher: Midnight Ink Astrological signs are gathering over Geneva Leary's wedding day, and Julia Bonatti is worried. Her job was to be a bridesmaid not the bearer of bad news. When catastrophe strikes in the form of a missing sister, the sudden unconscious wedding planner and the murder, everyone is surprised, except for Julia. Grief and accusations threaten to tear her friend and her family apart permanently. Julia doesn’t want to get involved, but it looks like she doesn’t have a choice. She owes it to Geneva to solve the murder before the wrong person goes to prison for the crime. -- This is the second book in The Zodiac Mystery series, Ms. di Marco has crafted an entertaining and highly imaginative story with plenty of twists and turns. The main character, Julia is smart, funny and intelligent. She knows what she is good at and what she isn’t. She wants to help ease the grief of her friend and everyone else but knows one of them may well be a killer. She isn’t always tactful but tries not to be too insensitive; however, she isn’t always successful and at times blurts out the first thought that comes into her head. This can lead to awkward situations and hurt feelings. Julia is a typical woman with a talent for astrology. She lacks self-confidence at times, and this can cause her trouble. Having lost her own fiance several years earlier, she knows that astrology works but may not always help. The story is well written and flows nicely. The plot thickens as the reader turns the page but never gets bogged down in too much detail. The characters are rich and well rounded with just enough flaws to make them relatable. The scene where Julia becomes locked in a restaurant storeroom and worry that she will be found and not found at the same time gives her a feel of frailty and determination at the same time. The ending of the book resolves all of the questions in the story but leaves room for interpretation. A character who is thrown in at the last minute, however, is unnecessary and does not enhance the story but doesn’t detract from the overall plot. This book, as well as the series, is recommended to anyone who has an interest in astrology and enjoys books with twists and turns that aren’t always red herrings. “All Signs Point to Murder” is fast-paced and a delightful read.

The second installment of The Zodiac Mysteries did not disappoint. I've been looking forward to reading this book since last year! Connie di Marco does a great job of keeping you guessing with the twists and turns of the story. And she injects just the right amount of astrology to be informative. I found it helpful to have read the first book, but there is enough background information that leads me to believe it could be read as a standalone. I was kept guessing until the end...I did not see it ending the way that it did. A truly satisfying cozy (not too cozy) mystery. I was given an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review

Julia Bonatti’s friend, Geneva is going to get married. But Julia sees some unhappy astrological signs ahead. But she doesn’t want to rain on Geneva’s happiness. But things go to hell quickly when a murder happens at the reception. Julia decides that she is going to solve this mystery and learns that Geneva’s family has some dark secrets that she might not want to hear about. It also looks like the killer is willing to stop Julia in any way possible. Julia sees darkness in the signs but she doesn’t want to ruin Geneva’s big day. And what could go wrong does the whole day of the wedding with a missing sister, a drunken wedding planner, and an intruder being shot. Sadly it’s Moira, Geneva’s sister that dies. Julia decides to look into this mess and quickly finds herself in trouble. This is a great cozy mystery with a n astrological twist added in. I loved how the astrology played into the story. I didn’t really guess who killed Moira but I loved the why. The story flowed well and kept me entertained. I have not read the first book in the series but I think I will go back to catch up. I received All Signs Point to Murder from Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours and Netgalley for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

This is the second book in the series, although each one is easily read as a stand alone story. While I enjoy the overall story and the characters, I often find the astrological chart information too difficult to follow/understand. In this story, we find that many of the characters are hiding secrets, but I had no idea which one was the murderer until deep in the plot. There were many clues, but it wasn't until we had all of them that the killer's identity was clear. Julia and her friends are becoming more developed characters as the series continues, giving us more insight into their lives and relationships. Some people are still pressing Julia to begin dating again, and there is a hint or two that she might do so in the future. For now, though, I'm enjoying her as an independent single woman. **I received a copy of this book from the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

All Signs Point to Murder is the second book in Connie di Marco’s Zodiac Mystery series. It is a standalone read. I will admit that the astrology aspect of the book throws me off. I just can’t wrap my head around it. But ultimately that's just a small part of the overall story. Over the past couple of years, Julia Bonatti’s life has changed dramatically. She lost the love of her life in a hit and run accident and has had to pick herself back up. While she isn’t ready to venture back into the dating pool, she is ever so slowly putting the past behind her. Losing Michael changed the trajectory of Julia’s life. She is now a San Francisco based astrologer, giving private readings to people and writing a column for the Chronicle. All Signs Point to Murder finds Julia being a bridesmaid in her college friend Geneva Leary’s wedding. Before the wedding, things get a little rocky when the bride’s younger sister disappears and then is found drunk. The wedding proceeds, but tragedy is to come. Geneva’s sister is shot and killed. Was this just a tragic accident or was Moira’s past and present finally catching up with her? Moira, the youngest of the Learys, had several issues and was of questionable character. Not wanting the police to just put the investigation on the back burner, Geneva asks Julia to look into Moira’s life and make sure that there aren’t any surprises that the family doesn’t know about. Julia turns to her charts and starts an investigation into the life of Moira. Her investigations reveal more questions than answers and put Julia’s life in jeopardy several times. Connie di Marco has weaved together a truly good murder mystery. She provided plenty of little red herrings to have you questioning everyone involved. In the end, the reveal was surprising and the fallout from Julia’s investigation huge. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. I’m curious to see how Julia’s life continues to evolve. **Received a copy from Midnight Ink in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion.**

a complex mystery with a major twist! ALL SIGNS POINT TO MURDER by Connie di Marco The Second Zodiac Mystery Geneva Leary was there for Julia Bonatti when Julia's world came crashing down upon the death of her fiance. Now Julia is a bridesmaid at Geneva's wedding. The happy day is not quite so happy as the bride's youngest ne'er do well sister, Moira, disappears and misses the ceremony, only to be found passed out later. The wedding consultant collapses during the reception and angry words are spoken by more than one family member. Julia spends the night at the family home only to be woken by shots fired. Rob, Geneva's brother-in-law, has shot who he thought was an intruder, but actually is Moira. Did Moira truly shoot first? Was someone else in the garage? Julia strives to help as the family falls apart. Is the answer in the stars? Connie di Marco delves into dysfunctional families, friendships, and Julia's past in her second Zodiac mystery. ALL SIGNS POINT TO MURDER falls into the cozy realm, whereas her first book in the series was distinctly darker and not a cozy in my book. While lighter in style, ALL SIGNS POINT TO MURDER has a few heart stopping, thriller moments, and great depth in its subject matter, characterization, and writing. ALL SIGNS POINT TO MURDER is a complex mystery with a major twist! I love the astrological aspect to the series. Julia not only works as a professional astrologer, but shows how the stars can impact every day life as well as major events and even personalities. I wish I could meet up with Julia, have a drink, and have her look at my chart.
