Allan's Wife (Barnes & Noble Digital Library): An Allan Quartermain Novel by H. Rider Haggard
The third novel H. Rider Haggard’s celebrated Allan Quatermain series, this tale is not exactly about Quartermain’s wife, at least not to begin with. Allan’s Wife tells more stories of Quartermain’s time in South Africa—presenting his observations about two dueling witch doctors, his father’s death, and, eventually, the fate of his wife, Stella.
Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was a British civil servant and novelist whose tales of mystery, romance, and rip-roaring adventure deeply influenced subsequent generations of writers. Haggard is most famous as the author of the novel King Solomon’s Mines, whose Allan Quartermain was the inspiration for the character Indiana Jones in the Raiders of the Lost Ark movies.
