Dr. Smoots covers it all! This book is very comprehensive, covering all aspects of allergy treatment and prevention. It is an easy read, feels just like having a conversation, chock full of good advice. It has lots of options for treatment besides just taking a pill. Dr. Smoots covers all the bases in this guide. I highly recommend it to my patients, friends and family.

This guide on allergies gives you a wide range of treatment choices. From prescription drugs to over-the-counter medications to home remedies and alternative therapies, it discusses the pluses and minuses of them all. Though the author spends a couple of chapters covering the medications you can take for allergies, the real thrust of the book is on prevention and alternative treatments. There are a lot of suggestions about how to discover the causes, avoid the triggers, and reduce the symptoms in a wide variety of ways that I was not aware of before. Instead of just covering up symptoms with drugs, I learned I have some other options to choose from, including diet and natural remedies. In addition, I definitely got the feeling that the author had put a lot of her own personal experience into this book – it is totally different than what you will find on the Mayo Clinic, WebMD, or other medical encyclopedia type websites. So if your current prescription isn’t doing the job and you’re looking for alternatives to alleviate some of those miserable symptoms, you may find this book very worthwhile.
