I generally don't like novellas because I find them rushed. Authors often use the same structure of story arcs that they use for full length novels and it doesn't seem to fit right and offer the depth that a better structured short story would. That said, this is a good novella. Kendall dragged me into the story despite my general reluctance and even though this is nowhere near as well written as her other works. I am realllllllly looking forward to the next book. There is a lengthy except included at the end of this novella and I am riveted-it will likely be her best book yet. It is not due to come out until this fall according to her website, but hopefully by "Fall" she means September and not November.

This was hot! I adored this novella. The hero and heroine are not in the first two books but many characters from the first 2 books show up in this one. I thought I knew exactly how the plot was going to unfold and I was wrong, which is a good thing. Loved the chemistry between the Derek and Elizabeth and the author definitely wants to pull you into the story after this one, which will feature Alex and Charlotte. She does a great job there because she includes a real cliffhanger of a teaser for An Heir of Deception. I personally canNOT wait for that book.

All's Fair in Love and Seduction by Beverley Kendall The Elusive Lords Series Book 2.5 Lord Derek Creswell is bitter towards a family that tried to trick his brother into a marriage 6 years ago. When he sees the beautiful Elizabeth Smith, he does not realize that she is a younger sister to the chit who caused such trouble with his brother Henry. And by the time he finds out who she really is...his heart wishes it weren't true. Elizabeth finds that Lord Creswell is even more handsome than she thought when she was fifteen. When he kisses her in the garden at a party she could almost feel like a wanton. Too bad the biggest talk of the town has caught her in the act...thankfully the woman don't know who she was with. But her cousin aims to see Derek married to her. Elizabeth knows she has to tell him the truth of who her family is but as in all good tales...the time never seem right and they always find out the wrong way. It seems while her heart softens towards Derek, his heart hardens toward hers. This is a free ebook and is part of a series. The characters from the earlier books are present through out this one and the book after. If you enjoy a good Regency series, this is a well written book and from the sample chapters at the end of this book...the others look well worth the read. Book 1: Sinful Surrender, Book 2: A Taste of Desire, Book 2.5 All's Fair in Love and Seduction and Book 4: Heir of Deception. **Some sensual situations.

This is the first story I've read by Ms. Kendall, and I have to say that I was disappointed in it. It is the story of Miss Elizabeth Smith and her encounter with Viscount Derek Creswell. When they are caught in the garden sharing a passionate kiss by the ton's worst gossip, Elizabeth blurts out that they are engaged. It's the only thing she can think of to save her reputation. Thus begins her first lie in the story. I love Regency romances, but this one didn't always seem to follow the rules of the period. I don't believe it would have been proper for a young lady to go for a carriage ride with a gentlemen she's just met without an escort, especially not in a closed carriage, but I could be wrong about this. I didn't make any connection with Elizabeth's character. She didn't come across as the naive virgin she was supposed to be and Derek's character was downright mean. He goes to extraordinary lengths to embarrass and humiliate her and Elizabeth doesn't take offense. She also seems powerless to control her own lust when she's around him, certainly not the actions of a proper young lady of the period. There was not a sweet romance between two people who start off on the wrong foot, but one of manipulation and deception. I was also disappointed when the book ended at 66% on my Kindle. I thought there would be more and not the convenient quick wrap-up in the epilogue. In the end I didn't like either Elizabeth or Derek. I'm glad I got this book for free because otherwise I would have been sorely disappointed if I had wasted anything more than my time.

Story was very short: less than 90 pages. The remaining 60 pages were excerpts and teasers for other books in this series and by this author. Other than that, the storyline was fairly standard and the author could have done more with the character development.

Elisabeth is in London for her season and is already quite smitten with someone, but she has a secret she doesn’t want him to know. He was involved with her family years ago when his brother defiled her sister then claimed he didn’t. There was bad blood between the two families but she had fallen for Dereck, the oldest brother when she had seen him before. She knows if he realizes who she is he will shun her and she doesn’t want that. Then comes the inevitable incident when he kisses her and the town’s biggest gossip sees it happen. It’s a wild ride with some heated scenes and lots of anger when he realizes who she is. Enjoyed it immensely!
