Altered To Death by Christina Freeburn

Even knee-deep in planning her wedding, Faith Hunter finds herself distracted by the town scrapbook she was commissioned to create. Eden's oldest mystery, the founding family's exodus nearly a hundred years ago, remains unsolved. When a search through the family's abandoned mansion leads to the uncovering of bones on the property and ex-boyfriend Steve Davis announces a surprise heir has staked a claim, Faith is determined to dig up the truth left behind.

Meanwhile, family friend Wyatt Buford asks Faith to look into his deadbeat father's disappearing act and his connection to the murder. Her quest for answers unearths secrets past and present that some would prefer stay buried at any cost. Faith's resolve to present the facts and nothing but about Eden's history could lead to her own future being cut short.

About the Author

The Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery series brings together Christina Freeburn’s love of mysteries, scrapbooking, and West Virginia. When not writing or reading, she can be found in her scrapbook room or at a crop. Alas, none of the real-life crops have had a sexy male prosecutor or a handsome police officer attending. Christina served in the JAG Corps of the US Army and has also worked as a paralegal, librarian, and church secretary. She lives in West Virginia with her husband, children, a dog, and a rarely seen cat except by those who are afraid or allergic to felines.

Altered to Death is the sixth book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery series, but it can easily stand alone. I have read the first book in the series, Cropped to Death, but none of the others in between. From remarks made in this book, I can tell that Faith has had some hair-raising experiences as she continues to investigate crimes in Eden, West Virginia, and consequently, I am looking forward to reading the "in-between" books. Faith is a sometimes vulnerable, but often headstrong character. She is not afraid of asking the difficult questions when conducting an investigation, sometimes risking her own personal safety. In Altered to Death, she takes on a complex mystery regarding the ownership of Eden's historic Everton Mansion with the help of boxes of memorabilia she has been given by the townspeople to help her make a scrapbook of Eden's history. In this story, she is greatly helped by brothers Wayne and Wyatt Buford, characters I really enjoyed. There are many twists and turns in Faith's search for the truth, and it seems that nothing will deter her from her quest to find all the answers. I really enjoyed this mystery, with characters past and present, and am glad Faith has supporters who watch her back! There is not as much about scrapbooking as there was in the first book, although a scrapbooking job ignited Faith's investigation into Eden's mysterious past. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own.

Faith Hunter and her family and friends are back with another cozy mystery that had me hooked from the first page. The story is filled with unexpected twists. I enjoyed how the author combined the past with the present to create a intriguing mystery. An added bonus was the sweet romance between Faith and Ted. This book is filled with likeable, quirky characters. The fact that the body was discovered near the Everton mansion added so much suspense. I admire how Christina Freeburn's snappy dialogue. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

Altered to Death is the 6th book in the Faith Hunter Scrap This series. I enjoy this series and Faith Hunter has become another favorite character. Working with her grandmothers in their scrap book shop, Faith has taken on a huge task, working on a town scrapbook. The task is something Faith enjoys and when she encounters a strange request, Faith finds herself deep in another mystery. Ted, Faith's fiance, a detective, is not to keen on having Faith involved in another investigation, especially when she becomes the target of a local resident. Digging through old diaries and letters is something Faith loves to do, but when she discovers a secret that someone has worked hard to hide, she becomes a target, putting her directly in harm's path. I liked all the details in this story. Ms. Freeburn wrote a well told tale, and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Faith's relationship with her grandmothers is heartwarming and adds a sweet element to the book. Readers will enjoy catching up with Faith and all the other characters in the fun cozy mystery. Grab your copy on November 28th! I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by NetGalley and Henery Press.
