I've been waiting for this second book of the Amber House Trilogy since I finished the first.  I purchased Neverwas, and began to read.  I realized I needed to refresh my memory of all things Amber House, so I reread Amber House before I went on to Neverwas.  In my opinion, if you haven't read Amber House, you should pick it up and enjoy that book before you read Neverwas.  Not only will you have another amazing book, but, the first part of Neverwas may be confusing if you haven't read the first book in this trilogy.   The first chapter of Neverwas WAS a bit confusing (even after just re-reading Amberhouse) since it gave you the background you need, but not the background you thought you should be getting.  Once you realize that everything we think of as normal isn't...this tale really takes off.  No 'United States', Nazi's running Europe, no America, nobles running New England, liberals in the Pacific Northwest...the whole thing was mind boggling!  It made me stop and think 'what it' more than once during the reading.   Richard was more likable in this story and Jackson continued to be steady.  Sarah was less sure of herself but was able to do what needed to be done.  Sam was a love, as usual, and more accepting of the messages Amber House gave him.  I can't wait to see what happens to all of the characters as this trilogy concludes!  There are so many ways it can go. The ending was absolutely perfect and leads in to the final book of this trilogy. A fantastic read.
