The story is about a lueitenant left behind on the Philippine islands. He is forced to form a band, and soon an army, of other men and voluteers who were also left behind. They use guerilla warfare to combat the invading Japanese. My thought on the novel is that it is very dull. I was disapointed at the story for being so. I feel that that it elaborates way to much for my taste. There were parts to the story that make it interesting, but, again, it elaborates. If someone is looking to pass the time with a book, then this is for you. If you are an action buff, then this isn't for you.
