America's Star-Spangled Story: Celebrating 200 Years of the National Anthem is an excellent source of historical information for students and adults. Our forefathers' fight for freedom and independence should be remembered with gratitude and cherished forever. In this book, Jane accomplishes that feeling with colorful pictures and quotes from our past. I found it spurred in me a new pride for our country. I feel it will do the same for Americans, young and old. It's a great, short read that I recommend to everyone.

America's Star-Spangled Story: Celebrating 200 Years of the National Anthem is an excellent way to celebrate the  200 birthday of our national anthem. Thank you, Jane Hampton Cook, for the history behind the words we sing at sporting events and other patriotic assemblies. Sometimes we take these words for granted. May we all be reminded as we see those stars and stripes of the sacrifices that were made then and still being made today for our freedom.

Regarding Jane Hampton Cook's latest book,"America's Star-Spangled Story", you will never take the stars and stripes of our flag for granted again, nor will the lyrics of our national anthem sound from your voice due to repetition and memory alone... the lyrics will now paint a moving picture that links our nation's history to your own experiences of being an American, and that sense of pride you feel about your own accomplishments at work, home or church will suddenly make you realize that each one of us is an integral piece of the vast amazing puzzle that forms our United States of America. Past and present we collectively continue to strive to keep those stars and stripes waving- and Jane Hampton Cook once again excels in bringing history, faith and pride together to bring meaning to lyrics that so often pass our lips without thinking of their relevance and their strength. Excellent read, wonderful way to bring 200 years of freedom right to your heart, and a reminder to never EVER take those stars, stripes, the sacrifices of our forefathers, our military or our freedom for granted.

Having sung the words to the Star-Spangled Banner hundreds of times throughout my life, I sometimes lose sight of the brilliance of the beautiful poetic words written by Frances Scott Key. The way that Cook dissects the song and recounts the history that led to the writing of this national treasure resurged strong feelings of patriotism within me. The beautiful photographs included in this short read also made me appreciate our American flag and all that it stands for. I am so thankful for those brave men and women who have sacrificed much to make this country what it is. Jane Hampton Cook, as always, is a master at telling the American story.

Thoroughly inspiring!  Although this book is about the history of our national anthem, it brings you into the battles that inspired it.  This is a beautifully written book, done in such a way that it doesn't feel like you are being shown a piece of history.  If you love history, you will love this book!  If, (like me), you hear history, and start shutting down, you will still love this book!  I found myself going to Google and YouTube to check some things out - like where the music for the lyrics came from and Fort McHenry today.  The pictures are absolutely stunning!  Look for the part when the fight against Fort Henry was over- the flag being raised will swell your heart with pride for America.  I know my next trip to DC will include a trip to Fort McHenry and the Smithsonian to see the original flag. This book is perfect for all ages.  It would be a great gift for anyone who loves history, anyone who takes pride in America, and probably should be available in the gift shop at Fort McHenry and the Smithsonian. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
