My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether. I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows. But he sees me. Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He

My Rating: 3 and a half stars This was one of the first few books this author released. I can definitely see the potential that would continue to evolve and become the romance author she is today. As beautiful as this story was the emotional potency she tends to evoke in me in her later novels weren't all that strong in this one. It was still a very well written story. The heroine (Erica) is introduced in a very graphic and stomach-churning first scene. I usually don't mind most situations but this was one of the few books that almost had me tapping out because of it. Erica was traumatized and was almost broken because of it all. The seconds of "clarity" (AKA being herself) she would exhibit with Slate was amazing. Her journey of learning to live with her trauma and love again was beautiful. Slate was amazing! I loved how understanding and respectful he was towards Erica. At the same time, he also pushed her just enough out of her comfort zone for her to try and have normal experiences due to her circumstances and secrets. The ending was sweet! Though the "big bad" Erica and Leo were running from throughout the story was defeated way too easily, but I never saw it coming. I loved seeing her back in her element and living life to its fullest with Slate in the end. The Audio Book: Both narrations were great! I'm not usually a fan of male narrators, but the story sucked me in so well that I wouldn't even realize the narrator switched until the almost end of the chapter. I would have liked for both narrators to have more range in different female and male voices because there were a few times when I lost track of who was saying what.

Whabammmmm - I love Aly martinez and I love the Page brothers and Slate....*sigh* Seriously though lol - this series is one of my 2 fav. I loved every book and this one is no exception. In fact I didn't know it existed until someone aske dme why I handn't read it - etf? what do you mean.. let me at it! So here it is and here i am excited to force you all to read it if you haven't already *snort* Aly Martinez has the most incredible writing style and way with words. She brings stories and characters to life right in your fingertips and for that I will read anything this lady writes. This is book 2.5 but can be read as a stand alone. It is part of the series but doesn't reflect on teh age brothers at all so you won't get spoilers or miss anything. This one is about Slate and Leo and damn is it hot, beautiful, exciting and crazy. It was amazing. It starts off with a bang and rips your heart into a million pieces then slowly puts it back together as the book goes on. Erika is an amazing character and watching her grow and strengthen is beautiful but watching Slate fly across my pages was more than beautiful....the guy is smokin hot! Slate and Erika has some incredible chemistry and together they grow and come to terms with their pasts and futures. With the ending of this book and the starting of Fighting Solitude...I am left with one question...what happened in between for Leo? I am seriously hoping that answer will come in another book *claps* Grab this one and love it!

I have decided that Aly Martinez has become one of those authors who, no matter what she writes, I will buy and read it now questions asked. I don’t even need to read the description; it’s a one-click. She could write a book entitled “Secrets of Underwater Fire Starting” and I’d scoop that sucker up and devour it in a night, as I’d be sure that there would be a very tortured and hot hero attempting to start that fire. There might even be a mermaid involved…but I digress. My point is, every single one of her books is better than the one before it, and this book was absolutely one of the best I’ve read this year. I will say that this book has a really, REALLY rough beginning. It could trigger certain readers, so please be aware there is delicate subject matter involved. Erica Hill is a doctor, and one house call changes her life forever. Now she’s on the run, in witness protection, from some very bad men. With her protector and confidant Leo in tow, they’ve been on the run. They have had to assume new identities move periodically. A new neighbor changes the whole game for them, however. Slate Andrews is the heavyweight MMA champion, and after winning his most recent title he goes to the apartment complex that he grew up in, which he now owns, to get away from all the attention. He meets Erica and there is something about her that calls to him. She doesn’t know who he is; he thinks something is definitely up with her. What starts out as Slate just wanting to help a woman he senses is in danger soon blossoms into stronger feelings for them both. The question is, when all the secrets come out will they be able – or even want – to make it work? Can Erica move on from such devastating trauma and ever reclaim her life? The absolute best thing about this this book for me was the plot. I had some idea where it was going, but I certainly was wrong with the details when it finally all came out. I was WAY off, which was totally awesome. I mean, I read a lot, so I feel like it’s pretty difficult to pull one over on me. Aly pulled one over on me. And I loved every minute of it. I thought the plot was well constructed and thought out, and the way all the details came together at the end made a lot of sense to me. It’s a book that I think will definitely surprise a lot of readers. The characters in this book were really great as well. I think that Erica was a character that could totally lose herself to her grief and trauma. I think in some ways she does, but she never quite loses herself and I think when she meets Slate he begins to put her pieces back together again and make her the whole woman she once was. I really liked Erica and Slate together. Slate was a great alpha character. I think some fighters in these books seem to be a bit over the top, but Slate was just enough. Total goldilocks zone alpha male here, people. He’s protective, but not a douche; sexy but not pushy; fierce but loveable. I think, however, the only character is this book that left me scratching my head a bit was Leo. I now know that the next book will be about him, so I understand why we weren’t let into his complete story and privy to his demons. All I can say is, I can’t freakin’ wait for the next book!!! I need it in my hands now!!! Overall, this is a great book. The plot was surprising and gripping. The characters were realistic and interesting. The sexy time was…sexy. I loved it. 5 stars. Another really great read from Aly Martinez. She's masterful with plots. Sizzling romance, suspense, gripping drama, this book has it all. I didn't realize it was part of the series so the last line grabbed me. This book is AWESOME and a MUST READ. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend.

** ARC provided in exchange for an honest review ** After reading the synopsis, I couldn’t wait to read this book, but wasn’t sure what to expect. After reading this book I totally fell in love with the characters and the story. Simply Amazing! The beginning of the book is very dark and definitely not for the light hearted. After Erica is brutally raped by 8 men, she is saved by Leo, an undercover cop that she seem to feel the safest with. Even though he stood guard while all this happened. Fast forward 3 years and Erica (aka Riley) and Leo (aka David) are still on the run from the past. Erica is only a fragment of the woman she used to be and she hates it. She jumps at a knock on the door and she can’t ever be alone. She is always depending on Leo to keep her safe and always be with her. One day though while trying to get into their new place, she runs into a mouthwatering mountain of a man that scares her to death. She doesn’t care that he’s the hottest man she’s ever seen, she’s too afraid to see he as anything other than a threat to their safety. Slate Anderson is a very successful boxer who is at the top of his game. However, he isn’t interested in all the limelight and the fame. He would rather finish a fight and then be left alone until it’s time to start training again. But when he goes to his getaway place, he runs into a jumpy average looking woman who for some reason does anything she can to get away from him. Little did either of them know that what happens later that night only brings them closer than either ever expected to be. Slate states to see glimpses of the woman Erica is under all of the fear, but he just has to try to make her see that she is stronger than she thinks she is. Once Slate is able to break down some of Erica’s walls the pages are on FIRE! Throughout the story your heart just breaks for Erica, she’s gone through so much and hasn’t ever really had a chance to escape the demons that are constantly chasing her. When she finds Slate, he somehow is able to make her feel like the strong woman desperately wants to be, not just the victim she feels that she is, and she is deeply grateful for everything he does for her. But Erica’s past is still hunting her down and she constantly has to be on alert. Slate is constantly reassuring Erica that he will keep her safe, he will make everything right for her, but will he be enough to free her from her past? Will the people hunting down Erica finally catch up to her and accomplish their goal in killing her? Will Erica ever get the chance to fully give everything thing she is to Slate, the good and the bad? I absolutely LOVED this book and I can’t wait to see what Aly Martinez comes up with next! Slate has battled his way to my top 5 book boyfriend list, so you know that this is one bad boy you don’t want to miss out on ; )

Gifted Copy I love the story pot behind this book and it was delivered well. I did find that some of the story seems to be a little dragged out. The action in this book gets your heart pumping. Lots of twist and turns to this book. I did not expect this book to take that turn it did but let me tell you I loved it.  The emotions are real and take your breath away. I love the connection that Erica and Slate are given. I’m looking forward to more from this series.  Aly has a true gift for keeping you on the edge of you seat!

Among the Echos was an amazing read, I was pulled in from the second page and didn't put it down until it was finished. The characters ~Erica, Slate and Leo will stay with me for quite a awhile. Each damaged in their own way, they come together and the three of them work to heal each other. The beginning of this book is dark but while this sets the tone for everything that happens, this ends up being one of the most achingly beautiful love stories I've had the pleasure of reading. Aly has an awesome way with words and I read some of the passages over and over. I'm so looking forward to Leo's story and will be first in line for it! Thanks Aly. Bev N
