Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lauri Berkenkamp
In this graphic novelization of the twenty-fifth book in the beloved "Boxcar Children" series, the Alden children are invited to an amusement park that has an old carousel with valuable antique horses. The children enjoy their visits to the park, but notice that the carousel horses are mysteriously being damaged. When the Aldens begin receiving threatening phone calls warning them away from the carousel and the park, and see strange lights in the amusement park at night, they decide to investigate. This adaptation of the full-length chapter book to graphic novel may appeal to reluctant readers, but the plot is cut to the bone, illustrations are poorly rendered, and the children are difficult to tell apart. Characters appear without any introduction, which is likely to confuse readers unfamiliar with the full-length books. The benefit this book might offer is to introduce young readers to the series and inspire them to read the full-length chapter books, but on its own is a poor substitute for the real thing. Meet the Author

Gertrude Chandler Warner was born in 1890 in Putnam, Connecticut, where she taught school and wrote The Boxcar Children because she had often imagined how delightful it would be to live in a caboose or freight car. The Boxcar Children The amusement park mystery By Gertrude Chandler Warner The main characters of the book are four children named Benny, Henry, Jessie, and Violet Alden. The four children solve mysteries with their grandfather. In the book the Alden visited their cousins. While their in the car they see they see an amusement park that they want to go to. After they arrive they ask their cousins if they can go. They said they can go next day. So that day the Alden kids helped prepare dinner. The next day they went to the amusement park. When they get there they go to the horses at the merry go round. When they came back t6po the amusement park a horse was missing so the mystery began. This book took place during the summer in August at North Wood. This is a mystery story. I like this story because it has many clues that make it interesting. There is a Boxcar Children series with many interesting mysteries. I can relate to this story because I have to solve my own mysteries at home.
