It's three weeks until Christmas, and Private Investigator, Lou Steigerman finally has some free time to get in a little holiday shopping. But his plans are scuttled when Anne and Leonard Whiteside come knocking on the door of the Steigerman & Cormack Detective Agency. Five years earlier, their eldest daughter, Eden, was found murdered on Palm Beach.

Frustrated by the lack of progress by the Palm Beach police, the Whitesides are desperate for Lou's help to solve their daughter's murder.

Never one to refuse a challenge, Lou accepts the case, wondering if he can pull off what the police have failed to do.

The case sets Lou and his young partner, Private Investigator Jessie Cormack on a dangerous path, which takes them from South Beach to the halls of the Florida State House in Tallahassee. Along the way they are stalked by an unknown adversary and Lou is forced to face his own mortality.
