This beautifully illustrated oversized book contains two stories-in the first an old tree falls during a spring storm. The children rescue a baby owl and take responsibility to create a safe new home, feeding and eventually teaching the owl to hunt for his own food. Then they set him free, because owls are meant to be free, not pets. In the second story, the reader is introduced to three cats and their very different personalities. As they also grow up, they find their rightful place on the farm. Bright watercolors filled with animals and scenes of farm life will give children lots to look at and discuss.
