An S. E. Hinton Collection by S. E. Hinton

As popular today as they were when first published more than thirty years ago, The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now are finally available in one handy edition!

Both titles incorporate universal themes of loyalty, independence, and alienation in a realistic voice that speaks directly to young adult readers. The Outsiders: Growing up in a rough city surrounded by violence, Ponyboy and his friends learn what it means to defend your turf and to stand up for each other. That Was Then, This Is Now: Mark and Bryon are practically brothers-they have no family to speak of-but they eventually come to a point in their lives where they have difficult choices to make; choices that might separate them forever.

I am a 41 year old mother of a 13 year old son. When I was in Jr. High School these books were required reading. I loved all of S.E. Hinton's books. And now I am so glad that my son is at the age to read them and enjoy them as much as I did.

This book was my favorite for the longest time. I read it for 7th grade and I totally fell in love with the character named Ponyboy. It is such a strong book and really sends out a message that all teenagers should read. Anyone who loves realistic fiction or just an awesome book, should definatly check this one out! :]

This book was very good, it's outstanding I never read a book that felt like it was real. As I was reading 'The Outsiders' I felt as if I was there, not just reading the book, but couold actually picture myself in the book. I felt as if i was there when all this things happened. Most of all it's was not just one book, but it was like two books combined together but under the same cover. This is the most OutStanding book I've had ever read. If I had to I would read it a hundred times, I highly reccommand that others should raed this book, and enjoy as much as i have, it's worth reading, it might give some people good advice. It not only teaches you life lessons but the true meaning of friendship

This book teaches alot. After reading it you can see the 'other side of the story' when passing a group of kids who seem to be living on the edge. It gives a lot to learn from.

This is the best book. We read this book in 7th grade. This book thought me that it was not just the 'black on white', but a 'white on white' thing too.

Ummm when i first read these 2 books they were awsome id rather focus on That was then this is now mostly because when I read it I thought about how I am And I saw alot of truth in the way things happen...its almost like your standing still but the whole world is moving around you and your not sure what is really happening but your just kinda hanging on for the ride lifes a trip but you sure do have to love it no matter what happens...
