If you are looking for a fun Amish read, pick this one up! You won't be sorry. When Helen Zook loses her fiance to her sister, she runs away from home, heading for her aunt's home in Bowman's Crossing, OH. The first person she meets, on the bus no less, is a rude Amish man who repeatedly pokes his nose into her business just because she's crying. Arriving at her aunt's home, she finds that rude Amish man is their next door neighbor, Mark Bowman. Not only that, pretty much the only jobs to be had in town have to go through him. As if living with her loony aunt and her pets - a "matchmaking" basset hound and a raccoon - wasn't enough of a trial, now she has to go to him and beg for a job if she ever has a hope of true independence. What happens when Clyde, the matchmaking dog, decides that Mark is the man for Helen? One disaster after another! But, will their hearts see the humor or will they only see the obstacles between them? With massive doses of humor, Patricia Davids tells the story of two people who, at first glance, appear to be oil and water. It was so much fun reading about them, and the people surrounding them - many of whom I had already "met" in previous books in the Amish Bachelors series. This one is a keeper!

An Unexpected Amish Romance is a uniquely humorously romantic story. When have a dog and a raccoon end up as matchmaker's - you know you have a great fun story. Helen had something that typically happens in life and in books and so she has to move on from it. So her Aunt starts to interfere in her life - and who's Aunt who loves them doesn't? On her way to her Aunt's she meets someone on the bus and from that point on they meet in many different situations, some funny some not so much but most touching each others heart. So, what happens here? Will the dog and raccoon win out? All's I know is GOD wins! I just pray I get the honor to read the next book from this author. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are my own. This is a delightful story of moving on, filled with humour, love and two matchmaking pets - a dog and racoon! After Helen Zook’s fiancé broke their engagement to marry her sister, she was determined not to stay at home so travelled to stay with her Aunt. On the bus she is greeted by Mark Bowman and they have a turbulent exchange - the first of many to come! Although both are Amish, they are also both somewhat truculent, independent and driven. Mark is engaged to someone back in his home community and is staying with his Aunt and Uncle to learn and develop his trade as a carpenter. It is their very imperfections that made these a perfect couple! The community, the quirky relations and the pets all bring so much to this enjoyable story. It is an uplifting, heartwarming, story involving faith, family and love which I really enjoyed escaping into. It is one that I didn’t want to put down until I’d finished it and I’ll certainly look out for more by this author and in this series in future. I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

I loved this read, it kept me page-turning and when finished I hated to let go. We are back in Bowman Corners Ohio, and friends we have previously met are here, but we are drawn immediately to the young woman crying on the bus, and the man who tries to comfort her, we meet Helen and Mark. I have to say the author gave us several different meetings at first, let’s say food and mud puddles to name a few. We also meet eccentric Aunt Charlotte and her precocious dog and pet raccoon, who work in the matchmaking. Can a girl with a broken heart and a man with an intended and a plan find a relationship between the two of them? The author puts them together in several different ways, some very unpleasant, but some with a good deal of chuckles! I can’t wait for more from this author, and want more visits back to Ohio! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.

An inspiring story filled with humor, love, and passion for life. I had a few good laughs with incidents Helen Zook and Mark Bowman got into, accidentally and by being in the wrong place at the wrong time... Both Helen and Mark are very driven people. They know what they want and they are not afraid to go after it. Even though they are good Amish people, they are not perfect. They have weaknesses, they have need and room for improvement with their personalities, and they recognize this and work on the issues. Helen and Mark were perfect for each other, even with their imperfections they make a perfect team, a unit, partners, and friends. It was easy to like them, and it was entertaining to watch them fall head over heels in love with each other. Family and the community always plays an important role in the Love Inspired stories and Helen's quirky aunt with her pets bring lots of smiles to the tale. Mark's extended family is loving and caring, they are not afraid to say when there is room for correction and development. Their honesty and straight-forwardness are always wrapped in love, inspiring to improve. An uplifting and heartening story about faith, family, growing to be the best version of yourself, falling in love, and finding your true soulmate. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
