After reading this book, I understand the rise of China. It has got to do with ancient wisdom and culture from its 5000 years of history. There are many business lessons learnt by just studying Zheng He, Confucius and Zheng He. The author made a very intelligent application and comparison with western management principles , very much led by Jack Welch of General Electric (US). You cannot afford not to read this book if you are running a business.
A very timely book to draw on ancient wisdom. The Chinese have a long history of doing businesses. There are many great lessons drawn from the book. I like the contrasts made between Zheng He and Sun Zi. Also, how modern western management concepts from Jack Welch are being applied.
The Chinese must have done something right. China is the largest economy in the world today and even ahead of US. The economies in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong with dominant Chinese population are doing extremely well economically for many years.. Read this book which alludes to the fact that the ancient Chinese wise men such as Zheng He, Sun Zi , Confucius and many others are the ones to pass on their teachings and philosophies to benefit their future generations.
Wise principles from the past - The Chinese history is indeed one of the longest civilizations in the world - 5000 years. For this to last so long, it must be due to the many wisdoms of ancient Chinese philosophers and teachings. Indeed, the book has cleverly put together the various facets of Chinese wisemen from Confucius, Sun Zi, heng He etc. I would recommend this book to many business schools which are running out of business initiatives.
I know of Sun Zi and his military strategies are widely used in industries today. But I never realize the Admiral Zheng. He was even better in corporate transformation. Truly I agree with the book. There are many business lessons that one can learn from Zheng He who was the greatest voyageur six hundred years ago.
