1842. Ancient Spanish ballads; historical and romantic. Translated with notes, with an introductory essay on the origin, antiquity, character and influence of the ancient ballads of Spain, and an analytical account with specimens of the romance of the Cid. Lockhart is the biographer and son-in-law of Sir Walter Scott. The intention of this collection of old Spanish ballads is to furnish the English reader with some notion of Spanish minstrelsy, which has been preserved in the different Cancioneros and Romanceros of the sixteenth century.
