I purchased this book at a Goodwill. I was in a hurry, and thought the title was interesting, and read the inside flap. It kept me absolutely glued, and I LOVED it. I had not originally realized it was a true story, and that part saddened me. The pictures included reminded me that this happened to real people :( The first part of the book is more of a story, with a couple from Hawaii sailing to a supposedly deserted island, the boyfriend (Buck) on the run from authorites. They plan to grow marijuana, and sell it to their friends when they brought supplies, eventually earning enough money to get out of court. Another couple from San Diego decide to go to the very same island for adventure. When the two couples collide, they are in for the adventure of their lives. When one couple turns up dead, the other couple is obviously blamed. They say it was those nasty black tip reef sharks, that the dead couples life boat overturned, and the sharks got to them. But the betrayal and verdict will shock all.

I am a huge fan of Vincent's work and this is one of the finest! If you know anything at all about the law, then you'll know that Vincent does it the best. The final summation is just the ultimate!! A very good true crime drama and even the movie was great as well!! :-'

A great account of events. The book begins to drag a little with the in depth courtroom and trial dialogue, but provided unbelievable knowledge of those processes. The telling of the happenings on the island kept me glued. If you enjoyed Helter Skelter you will enjoy this as well.

I had seen this made for tv movie 1st. Then, I had to have the book for more details. It was wonderful. This is a must for any Bugliosi fan.

to escape from it all, and running into another couple who beat you to the punch. This story fascinated me. In fact, I have read it twice, and it was just as amazing the second time around. I didn't know people lived like this.

I don't believe a single word of what the defendant (Jennifer) says, but Bugliosi's summation is absolute genius. The verdict will blow you away!

The story is very intriguing and you continue to wonder what really happened. You just have to tolerate Vincent Bugliosi's constant reference to himself and what a wonderful attorney he is. Otherwise it gives you a whole new meaning of sailing the seas and being on a romantic island

Vince is a little full of himself and wordy as usual but the man is also thorough and the story is facinating. Characters are also well drawn. All in All it was a good read. GR

I loved the first 200 pages of this book and learn about this amazing true story. They were very well written and researched. Then the writer who is the lawyer of the accused in this story goes on for 500 pages describing in every boring legal detail how he defended her at trial. I felt this part was more a self promotion, the author telling the world :look how great I am" than acting as a writer. Turned a great story into a very boring reading. Disappointed.

I had never heard about these murders, and I have read more true crime books than I could ever count! It's a 700+ page book, which I really looked forward to. I was also very excited about the fact that Vincent Bugliosi co authored. While I admire his work, I must clue potential readers as to the layout of this book; the first half delves into the story of these two fated couples and their journey to the island of Palmyra...the second half is the trial. I enjoy reading about what happens in the courtroom, though the second half of the book is almost play by play. I will always pick up a book by Mr. Bugliosi, he has a great track record in the court system; if you can handle a lot of horn tooting, you will love this book.

I enjoy Bugliosi's work, and this is one of my favorites. It's a tale of travel and romance, murder and mystery, which also offers informative explanations of legal jargon and processes. Though the book is almost always better, I wish I had seen this t.v. movie.
