Reviewer: John Peder Erickson, MD (University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine)
Description: This book is the Spring 1995 edition of the International Anesthesiology Clinics. The compact review covers perioperative considerations in the patient with a transplanted organ.
Purpose: Authors from the U. S. and the U. K. wrote the chapters for the anesthetist who does not frequently deal with patients of this type.
Audience: Because this book is best suited for the less-experienced practitioner, it alone is insufficient as a reference or text for resident training.
Features: Several sections have too few illustrations, and some tables contain too much information to be easily comprehended. The references are mainly from the past ten years. The table of contents and index are adequate.
Assessment: This edition is part of a quarterly serial that should be in every academic library. It does not include material relevant to liver and pancreas transplants.
