Overview

The Angel (Boston Police/FBI Series #2) by Carla Neggers

Inside an ancient ruin, Keira discovers the mythic stone angel she seeks—but also senses a malevolent presence…just before the ruins collapse around her.

Search-and-rescue veteran Simon Cahill finds Keira in the rubble just as she's about to free herself. Simon holds no stock in myths or magic, so he isn't surprised that there's no trace of her stone angel.

But there is evidence of startling violence and—whatever the source—the danger to Keira is quite real. The long-forgotten legend that captivated her has also aroused a killer…a calculating predator who will follow them back to Boston, determined to kill again.

In Boston elderly Patsy McCarthy entertains folklorist Keira Sullivan with his lyrical tales of a stone angel in Eire. Unable to resist the magical lure and ignoring the warning of antiques collector Victor Sarakis not to meddle, Keira travels to the Emerald Isle to learn more about the Celtic legend. Before crossing the pond, Keira meets FBI agent Simon Cahill who is working a serial murder case.--------------- In Ireland, Keira follows clues to an ancient ruin where she thinks she glimpsed the stone angel only to have the place cave in on her. Simon who followed her after the murder of Patsy and Victor finds her. Whereas she thinks someone tried to kill her, he has doubts. Neither is cynical about their feelings for one another, but when the angel reappears allegedly in the United States, Simon and Keira wonder if a psychopath is at work or something more supernaturally capricious.-------------------- This strong romantic suspense grips readers from the moment Patsy tells about the legend to an engrossed Keira and never slows down on the Irish coast as the audience and the lead couple wonder if the culprit is human or paranormal. The romance feels right as the mystery is the center behind this fabulous thriller in which Carla Neggers keeps her fans guessing what the killer is.---------------- Harriet Klausner

This book was an unexpected joy to read. I was not familiar with Carla Neggers' work, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of her books. The story is about an Irish folk tale that comes to life in many ways for the protagonists. I enjoyed the journey it takes from Boston to Ireland and back again, and the characters were believable and easy to get to know. If you like a mystery with touches of romance and a supernatural element, you'll be very happy with this book. It gets a big "yes" from me - and I don't hand out 5 stars easily.

Carla expands on the characters and you get drawn into the book. It was hard to put it down. In fact, I read the first few pages in the book store, but couldn't buy it - so I came home and ordered it online because it drew me into the story in the first 10 pages.

I enjoyed the story - sometimes it was hard to keep track of all the characters from other books though. But still an enjoyable read.

This story is built around an old irish folk tale told to Keira, the main character in the book. It jumps from Boston to Ireland and back. A very handsome man comes to Keira's rescue and the romance starts. Quite romantic and suspenseful. An excellent read.
