Overview

The angel Alexiel loved God, but she rebelled against Heaven when she saw how disgracefully the other angels were behaving. She was finally captured, and as punishment sent to Earth to live an endless series of tragic lives. She now inhabits the body of Setsuna Mudo, a troubled teen in love with his sister Sara. Setsuna's misery mirrors the chaos among the angels, and their combined passions threaten to destroy both Heaven and Earth.

Why is Setsuna so mixed up? Despite his attempts to be noble, he'll fight anyone anytime; he ignores all authority; and he harbors feelings for his sister that can only be described as "incestuous." Why is he such a mess? The reason may be found with two demons from the underworld and their enemy, an insane angel who is distributing an insidious computer game called Angel Santuary.

it was simply outstanding. i mean, the writing, storyline, characters, art...it all makes for the best manga ever! though it can be confusing at times, if you just keep reading, you'll understand more and more!

You can't go wrong with this series. I've read manga and it has been enjoyable, but it hasn't really set me on fire like this has. In the past week, I've read a volume a day. The artwork is amazing, but the story is the best! This story has a depth of emotion that pulls you in and doesn't let go. But the story doesn't rely on emotion only. The plot is great. It doesn't drag and there is always a twist -- or two -- to keep you on your toes. Until this series, I never knew manga could be this good! And don't worry. I worried about the whole Sara/Setsuna thing, but it was handled very well and avoided the myriad pitfalls inherent in such a touchy subject.

Setsuna loves Sara, and only gets to see her once in awhile. They're very close. Only problem is, they're bother and sister! Setsuna is the reincarnation of an angel, and he's very violent, and has a weakness for blood. He always says what's on his mind, and miraculously never seems to get hurt too badly. When he meets Ruri, one of Sara's classmates, at first he is very rude. That doesn't stop him from rescuing her from a foreigner who gives her a disc called 'Angel Sanctuary'. Setsuna tells Ruri she's much cuter without glasses, which sparks her interest for Setsuna. Sara vows to help Ruri get with Setsuna, Ruri uses the disc and it tells her if somebody makes her suffer, that person will be deleted at Ruri's will. When some people who know Setsuna when he was the anghel Alexiel wind up causing an accident involving flying glass, Setsuna rushes to save Sara, but Ruri winds up blinded. Ruri is convinced it is Sara's fault, and tells the disc to delete Sara. One of Setsuna's classmates DIES because of an 'Angel Sanctuary' disc, and Setsuna manages to save Sara, but not Ruri, at the last moment. Throw in a fight at the warehouse, Setsuna kissing Sara while she's asleep and 'mommy dearest' seeing it and Sara saying something shocking and Setsuna 'reveals' he doesnt love Sara but he was horny and wanted to 'get some' from his little sis, yada yada yah, and there you go. Great idea, but confusing as hell. I still don't know if Kurai is a dude or a chick (but maybe that shows something about my own intelligence) and the only reason I got this was for the drama of the incestuous feelings Setsuna had for Sara and the basic grasp of the storyline. Great job, just if everything was explained a little bit more clearly, it'd be awesome.

Although it wasn't one of the best books i have ever read it was a very good book. i loved how Sara and Setsuna battle each other to find their true selves and i love also how Setsuna is protecting Sara from himself. I would have wished there would have been more action between Sara and Setsuna though.

I just walked in the store to look around and saw this! I love the series (which is only about.. 3 or 4 episodes long I believe) which I totally love and have been waiting for the manga. Imagine my surpise when I find it. I love Kaori Yuki's art style and the conflict between the characters. There are 'mature and inappropriate' themes within the writing.. But its rated for T+ (older teens) for a reason. I recommended it :) But.. dont think the manga is exactly like the series. It is in some ways.. but Ruri isnt in the series, just the manga. Enjoy :)

Killer computer games, reincarnation, fallen angels, demons, weird romance -- this book has it all! Seriously, I don't think that it can get any cooler. Sometimes, when a bunch of really cool elements are thrown together in one book it can be disastrous, but Yuki pulls it off and has created an incredibly exciting, suspenseful series. Plus, the artwork is beautiful. I don't think I've ever read a manga with such gorgeous drawings. As for the characters, I fell in love with Setsuna immediately, and I adore all the others. It's a very complex story with a deep historical background that I'm sure will be revealed little by little throughout the series. There are some funny moments to alleviate some of the tension (this is a very dark series). These moments aren't laugh-out-loud funny, but they definitely put a smile on my face. The only thing I had trouble with was remembering who was who, and what gender they were -- Yuki seems to love the theme of too-pretty males.I would recommend this for fans of dark fantasy and fallen angels. Be prepared for some serious weirdness, though!

Although the idea of this manga sounded interesting in premise, dealing with corrupt angels, desperate demons and human pawns unfortunately I found both the story and the illustrations completely over the top confusing. I got the basics but trying to keep track of which angel was which and who was the reincarnated spirit of what was completely mind boggling. This one was certainly on the older teen side with a great deal of violence and obsession being main plot points. Unfortunately not one of my favorite manga so far.

I had to read it through twice to thoroughly grasp the depth of what was being said in it, but overall, this book was fantastic. It was passionate, and well-written, and the art was beautiful.

This is definately a 5 star manga, highly recommed it. A Romeo and Juliet storyline, with so many different twists and turns that it keeps you hooked till the next published volume. A different type of love story, full of evil angels and heroic demons- a kind of manga that explores different versions of love, good, and evil. The main character is Setsuna, a boy trapped between a war of Heaven, and his own personal love for his sister. Dramatic as it is, the manga has also a good helping of slapstick humor, which gives it a great blend of drama and fun. This series by far is my favorite, the art and storyline are as beautiful and interesting as they get. Check it out~!

I decided to buy this without knowing anything about it at all. Just randomly picked something(I think that is the best was to find a good book). I had no idea how good it was. Confusing at first but once you get into it is by far the best thing you'll ever read. It is so good that I am reading it a second time over while waiting for the 6th volume to come out. I recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy. I absolutely love the artwork in this. Kaori Yuki draws very beautifully. And does anyone know if her other work Count Cain is available in the US? That is something I'll definatly have to check out.

This is by no means a shoujo series you can just jump right into. It has a drawn-out complex beginning, so you'll have to be patient, but once past that, the characters become well-defined and appealing. A great read for shoujo fans wh like their manga with a bit of fantasy...

This manga is probably one of my favorites. It's a mixture of drama, fantasy, romance, and comedy. The artwork is awesome, too. This book is a must-have.

I already have the entire series in the original Japanese and have been waiting forever for the translations! The story, though a bit controversial, is wonderfully complex and very interesting. There's plenty of action and cliffhangers, not to mention the amazing quality of the artwork. Definatly recomended!
