"Thank you," she said, licking her bottom lip.
"Giving me the choice. You so easily could have taken that away from me with just a kiss, and it means the world that you didn't."
"Yeah," he said shakily. "I'm so stinkin' noble it hurts."
Meg could see a vein pulsing in his neck, and felt a staggering need to press her lips there, to catch each pulse with her mouth, to feel the rough texture of him against her lips. She inched closer.
"You damn well better have made a decision here, Meg," he said hoarsely, "because in about half a second it's going to be out of your hands."
She dipped her tongue in his ear. "I have," she whispered.
