About the Author
One of them, Dr. Virginia Spencer Carr, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for both The Lonely Hunter: A Biography of Carson McCullers and Dos Passos: A Life. Dr. Carr was not only my professor and my mentor, but she was also a very dear friend with whom I shared many visits and a passion for good food and tea.
Along the course of this friendship, she wrote a letter to my graduate program, a quote from which still tenderly haunts my memories: "I have known [this person] both in and out of the classroom...[they have] assisted me in a number of special projects...a very creative person...in ways of examining issues that had not previously occurred to me...[and] I can see where [the] compassion, intellect, judgment, integrity, and maturity...come from."
Striking educators such as Dr. Carr have made me who I am today-a writer and educator who got lost somewhere in the hustle and bustle of life. I ended up teaching physics and biology for a living, but my soul remained that of a writer.
Today, I write to endorse different charitable organizations that have touched my heart, and every book has a special dedication indicating that a portion of all my net sales go to that special charity. Therefore, I encourage you to read my books and help these foundations!
