Overview

Blue Sullivan knows a player when she sees one. And Eddie Oliveira—charm and sex personified—was born to play. She never wanted him to say goodbye, so for the last ten years she’s ignored the sizzling attraction between them and focused on being the best sidekick a guy could have. Smart girl, right?

Then Blue has a serious accident, and overnight Eddie changes. Suddenly he’s more intense and singularly devoted…to her. With all this sexy attention, it’s hard to stay within the boundaries she’s scrupulously drawn. The temptation, the anticipation builds and, finally, she has to have what he’s offering. Of course Eddie proves to be brilliant. Now, she worries he’s ruined her forever, and that in making the leap to lovers, she'll lose the best friend she's ever had.

Blue and Eddie's story has a lot of emotions. Blue has the emotional scars and mental walls fully erected after having a rough childhood. Eddie is bound and determined to knock down the barriers to Blue's heart when they both take their ten year friendship to the next level. Great read. 237 pages

Strong Characters and writing for a great read! Blue and Eddie have been best friends for 10 years. Unfortunately, Blue has loved Eddie for just as long, and watching him as he flits through women, never sticking for long, just reinforces her belief that she would rather have his friendship than nothing. When Blue is nearly killed in an accident, Eddie is shaken to the core. Blue has always been there for him, and he is determined to make up for his neglect. Combined with Blue's realizations that she could have died without ever having explored a relationship with Eddie. As the two spend more time together, the temptation is overwhelming and the realize that they may just have something that will last. If Blue can trust Eddie and love. Blue lost her parents at a young age, ending up in a series of foster homes, many that were run by people who were determined to break her. Life experiences made her hold on to few things, including people. Eddie and his brother became family, so it is easy to understand her not wanting to lose them. It also makes it hard for her to trust in feelings. The characters were extremely well-developed,as was the story. It is not my usual style, as I have no understanding of or liking for tattoos. I read this solely because I have enjoyed Mayberry's other stories, and it is a testament to her writing ability that I thoroughly enjoyed this story with no thought of putting it aside.

Blue has had a rough time growing up, her parents died when she was young and she was in and out of foster homes growing up. Eddie is a player, never keeps his girls around very long. Blue and Eddie have been friends for many years, after Blue is injured, Eddie takes care of her and more feeling develop. Blue has always had deeper feelings for Eddie but does not want to ruin their friendship. Can Eddie get Blue to believe in him. This is the second book in the series, I did not read the first one yet, but it is now on my kindle to read. Loved the growth of these characters, from friends to lovers. I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I haven't read the first book in this series yet, but it didn't make any difference. I wasn't lost and I was able to get into the story right away. Blue had a rough childhood. Her parents died when she was only six, and she spent the rest of her childhood being shuffled between foster families and group homes. She has put up a protective barrier to prevent herself from getting too close to anyone else. Eddie works with Blue, and he has a history of having a revolving door of women through his bedroom. No one woman ever lasts long with him. The crew at the tattoo parlor are so close they are like family, but Blue has had a crush on Eddie for years and is afraid of ruining their friendship.  Then Blue has an accident and is badly injured. Suddenly Eddie realizes how he really feels about Blue, but she is still trying to protect herself from possible future pain. This was a great story. All of the characters were wonderful. I just wanted to give all of them a big hug, and to hang out in that tattoo parlor with them. I just loved everything about this story. I'm going to go back and read the first book in this series now, and I'm anxiously waiting for the next book as well.

Anticipation is a fast paced, emotional friends to lovers journey.  Eddie and Blue have been friends for 10 years.  Eddie is not a settling down, relationship type guy, and Blue is a good friend.  Despite having been attracted to Eddie from the start, Blue has managed to bury those feelings deep.  Everything comes boiling to the surface after an accident though... Blue has been through a lot in her life and I really felt for her.  I liked how she recognized the value of her friendship with Eddie and pulled back to re-evaluate.  She doesn't push Eddie or try for something she knows won't work.   No matter how she feels, she doesn't want to ruin their friendship.  It was interesting to see Blue work through this and where this actually took their relationship.  Especially when Eddie realizes what they might be able to have together.  The tables are suddenly turned and Eddie is the pursuer.  Blue tries so hard to resist him and her feelings...but Eddie is not giving up easily.   I liked how Sarah pulls us into Eddie and Blue's life, slowly letting us get to know them better.  The feelings between Blue and Eddie are explored very well.  The angst of the relationship and the conflicting feelings can strongly be felt.  These feelings were appropriate for the plot line and character growth.  The chemistry between Eddie and Blue is definitely there and I liked how neither of them is quick to give in to it, because they value their friendship so much. Anticipation is the second book in the Brothers Ink series by Sarah Mayberry, but can easily be read as a stand alone.  The secondary characters blend in well with the plot of Anticipation, without leaving you wondering what happened before. I'd recommend Anticipation to romance readers who like a friends to lovers story.

**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion** Blue is put-together on the outside, but in the inside, she's a fragile person who lost her parents at a very young age. Growing up in foster care, she learned to have a hard edge and to not get too emotionally attached to anyone--friends or a lover. Physical relationships she can handle, and she does! She's great at her job, but she never truly lets herself go. Eddie's been her friend for years, and she's tired of his parade of women. After a life-altering and near-death accident, she's feeling a bit reckless and wants to know what it would be like to have a physical relationship with Eddie, even though crossing the line might end the friendship. But, she's so conditioned to running, she won't let herself acknowledge her love for Eddie nor allow him to love her. After putting the ball in her court, and allowing Blue to determine the "rules" of their relationship, Eddie's desperate to let her know how he feels. The death of her final foster mom--the only one who ever cared about her--finally allows Blue to confront the past in order to move forward. This revelation opens her heart to love, friendship, and life on a whole new level. A life and love worth fighting for! What a wonderful, smexy journey to read!

Blue has been in love with her best friend, Eddie, for ten years, but never tells him how she feels because she's convinced he can't be reformed from his lady-hopping ways, until she's in a nearly fatal accident and both of them have to grapple with their relationship and their decisions. I really loved this book. It follows through on the slow-burning tension between Eddie and Blue that Mayberry set up in Satisfaction, and really makes both of them overcome a mountain of personal obstacles to get their happy ending. It doesn't have as much of the wrenching emotional turmoil as Within Reach or One Good Reason, but the tension between Eddie and Blue is always there, simmering, until it pays off in the best way. I especially enjoyed how Mayberry takes a familiar trope but then unexpectedly swerves away from where you think the story's going. This and Satisfaction are both keepers.

The sexual tension between these two is thick enough to cut with a knife. Their friendship is beautiful, their bickering had me laughing out loud several times, I loved it!

This sexy romance is the story of Blue and Eddie. They've been friends and coworkers for several years, never crossing that line until Blue is recovering from an accident that highlights to both of them the loss that could have happened. Suddenly their playful friend connection has a much deeper meaning and they give in to the sexual attraction that has always simmered between the surface. But though Eddie seems ready to give up his playboy ways for her, will Blue accept these changes or will she let love slip through her fingers? I loved this story! Truthfully I've been "anticipating" it (sorry, couldn't help myself) since reading Satisfaction which featured Eddie's twin brother Rafe and being introduced to the characters of Eddie and Blue. It was obvious then that they had a connection and it's been worth the wait to get their story. I appreciated that the accident mentioned in the blurb happened at the beginning of the story so that you weren't left on tenterhooks waiting for it to happen. It does, and leads to the profound realization for both of them of what almost happened and makes them both aware of each other in a new way. After secretly being attracted to Eddie for so long and pushing that attraction down deep inside, having him pay attention to her now suddenly doesn't feel the same to Blue anymore and she struggles with this feeling. Having grown up in the foster system she's learned that love is bad news (and won't even admit to herself the love she feels for her friends, never mind her deeper feelings for Eddie) and wants no part of its painful reality. Blue is friendly and outgoing but keeps her heart well protected, never really giving a man a chance to get to it. She's perfectly willing to have sex with a guy, but never lets it get any deeper. Eddie is a playboy, a fun man to be around, a loyal and true friend to those around him, Blue included. But her accident subsequently makes him realize how much he's taken for granted with her. When they finally connect on an intimate level, he's blown away by his feelings for her even as she shuts down the idea of a real relationship. Friends with benefits - okay, so long as it stays a secret. The sexual chemistry between them is sizzling and the love scenes were hot and steamy. I really loved how patient Eddie was with Blue as they navigate this new phase in their relationship, realizing that if he wants a future with her, it's going to be at her pace. The friendships and family connections in this story are equally as important as the main romance and I enjoyed the camaraderie and banter between them. The twin connection between Rafe and Eddie is strong and meaningful. Blue doesn't make friends easily but the friendships that she does make are important to her. From the start of the story I was hooked and I found it a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read. I hope to see more of these characters in the future! 5 stars.
