Antiserum by Patricia Carrigan

"What?! Is he part of some Transylvanian Mafia?!" I whispered frantically. This is something I would like to know before I stayed with them.
"No, worse." His voice was dark with a mischievous hint.
My eyes widened slightly as I leaned towards him, "What?"
"He's a vampire." Adrian's voice was rough, with no sense of humor.

Sixteen-year-old high school student Jocelyn loves blood; she lives for it. She's a blood addict. But that's not all that's going on in her life. Strange dreams haunt her sleep; she can read minds; and she hears voices in her head. And she discovers that J.B.-her twin sister-and their friends Sadie and Nikki all have similar powers. She learns that all of them a part of a group known as the Genetic Race.

But their powers and existence are threatened by another group known as the Others, and their only hope lies in traveling to Transylvania, where they must locate a special blood-filled amulet. On this trip, with the help of the very attractive Adrian, Jocelyn will discover that the very substance she needs to survive may have become her new and very deadly addiction.

I know what you're thinking, "Not another vampire book," but this is not your average vampire book. It's different and captivating, it doesn't follow the norm in vampire etiquette which makes this a refreshing change. And wow does it pull you in and leave you really wanting more. The deeper into the book you read, the more intense it gets. It's a must read on my list and I can't wait for Part II!

This book is definitely at the top of my favorites list! I was surprised at how quickly I was pulled into the book, and I found myself easily relating to the characters! I found myself wanting more before I was even done with the book. I REALLY hope part 2 is underway!

This book really pulls you in to want more and more. Before reading, I was skeptical of this being just another vampire book. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't at all. Great read.

While the concept is in essence interesting, the author has not yet mastered the fundamentals of writing. The story is peppered with improper syntax and grammatical errors that one would expect of a high school student, which brings up a good point. If someone is attempting to become a published author at such a young age, they had better make sure they possess extraordinary skill with the English language. Good writing skills typically take years to develop and even though, multiple drafts are essential. The story itself is mildly engaging in its quirkiness, but the overall tone is hopelessly adolescent. Most of the characters appear one-dimensional and the plot is rather disorganized. Going back to the writing, it reads like a second draft, third draft at best. I am not saying that the author possesses no talent, however. There is potential, but I would advise her to take quite a bit of time working her way through the basic, perhaps taking a supplemental English class or three. Then, if she chooses to press on with a second story, she should make seven, eight, nine, even ten drafts. Even Hemingway, one of the most prolific writers of the 20th century, rewrote the ending to A Farewell to Arms 39 times before he was satisfied. When it comes to writing, it is equal parts imagination and dedication.

Vivid Characters and great story that pulls you in and won't let go even after you've devoured the whole book! It worked its way into my head, just like the main character can. Her writing style is so unique that everything just comes "alive." .. I can't wait to read Part II

Some book reviews will say "I couldn't put it down!" But this one....I couldn't finish it!
