Children's Literature - Laura J. Brown
Ants and Aphids Work Together is a title in the "Pebble Plus Animals Working Together" series. This series focuses on the relationship or symbiosis between ants and aphids as they help each other find food and stay alive. This book includes information about this partnership between aphids and ants. Aphids suck juices from plants, but take more than they need. Ants eat the left over juices, called honeydew, from the aphids. Ants also transport aphids from one plant to another and protect aphid eggs from predators. This is series that has outstanding pictures, but textual features on each page will help young readers identify exactly what the text is referring to. Ants and aphids are referred to as animals, which is correct; however the term insect, the type of animals they are, is never used. A glossary is included, but one that also included pictures would be most beneficial to young readers. Additional reading materials are included as well as safe Internet sites where readers can find more information. Reviewer: Laura J. Brown
