Any Road by Connie Clements Ellison

Archie "A.B." and Ida Clements both grew up poor on farms in rural Southside Virginia, spending their formative years in the deprivation of the Great Depression, and their early adulthood during the heartache of World War II. Tom Brokaw called theirs "The Greatest Generation." Moses and Connie Clements just call them Mama and Daddy.

In the world of A.B. and Miss Ida, integrity is the greatest virtue, economy is a way of life, and hard work is mandatory. The tales they have to tell are, in turn, inspirational, heartbreaking, and thoroughly entertaining. Their lives are a testament to the desire and force of will it takes to make a living in the good black soil of Tidewater, Virginia.

Any Road: The Story of a Virginia Tobacco Farm is a series of short stories inspired by the lives of author Connie Clements Ellison's parents. Archie and Ida lived their lives based on faith, honesty, hard work, and humor as they strived for-and eventually achieved-the American Dream.

I loved this Book! The stories were full of love and admiration and all about small town living. My mother grew up in rural Greensville County so I enjoyed reading about the people and places that are so dear to her. You don't find people with character and integridy anymore like the good people of Greensville County. Thanks Connie for sharing your wonderful family stories.

A great feel-good book. Reminded me of my own parents. Takes you back to a time when a man's word was his bond and Christian Values were not hidden. The characters are wonderful. The Waltons, Andy Griffith Show and Father Knows Best all rolled into one.

I grew up in the same area as Mr. Archie and Miss Ida. I worked in tobacco as a young girl, and I can tell you, everything about tobacco farming in this book is true. It is a wonderful book! Mr. Archie was a strong man with strong beliefs. Miss Ida, his wife, was the 'salt of the earth.' She was the best person I have ever met. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Their lives, their hardships, their dreams, and their accomplishments touch your soul! I loved this book!
