“Passionate, provocative, powerful, heartfelt, lustful, sad, beautiful, ugly, mesmerizing and finally…” I just finished reading the erotic novel, “Anybody’s Somebody” by Courtney Phoenix White. The story is quite provocative which is exactly what it’s intended to be, but I found something else behind the words, vibrators, fellatio, cunnilingus, trysts and dalliances…a heart. Anybody’s Somebody tells the story of Mia. A young woman who has just been left at the altar by a cheating boyfriend. She is obviously devastated and trying desperately to hold onto her emotional sanity. Karrine her sexually liberated best friend is there to offer sage advice, and a hip (yet sisterly) advice on her current predicament. The story also offers another cast member that shall become quite prominent to the reader her vibrator…Baby. I won’t spoil the novel by revealing more than what I have already have done. I will say that it’s very intoxicating provocative and beautifully done. Yes the passion purrs off the pages. Yes the climaxes are volcanic and vividly portrayed, but what sets Courtney Phoenix White’s novel above and beyond it’s contemporary brethren is that it never loses its soul or its compassion. I was physically (ahem) engaged in reading this book. Still what surprised me is that I found myself rooting for Mia as well. She is a believable character as well as Karrine. Both of them seem cut from the same cloth and I feel as if I’ve known them forever. The fact that they are flawed and fabulous makes them even more believable. So what words would I use to describe the debut novel from Courtney Phoenix White, Anybody’s Somebody? Let’s see…Passionate, provocative, powerful, heartfelt, lustful, sad, beautiful, ugly, mesmerizing and finally it’s what we all go through each and every day…life.
