When I first opened the book "Open House" by Krystal Shannon and saw the name "Aphrodite" I knew it was going to be amazing! Aphrodite is the goddess of love and in this book we see as she watches over two humans and their love story. Rebecca and Robert were two humans who met at an open house only to realize that they have known each other since high school. Now, I totally can't say anything else about it because I don't want to spoil it but when Aphrodite's plan for love becomes a game with Ares, the god of war, things become heated. You totally need to read this book on your own to see just how amazing and awesome it is. Having Aphrodite and Ares together, fighting over the souls and both working their magic over these humans lives makes the book so much more interesting. The human characters as so well developed that you can easily fall in love with them and then become angry when Ares interferes. Oh I just adore this book! It isn't just your standard love story. It's a love story with an incredible twist since everything can be changed when dealing with the gods. I highly recommend this story for anyone who loves romance. There are two wonderful romance stories happening at once and it is just amazing how it is laid out. It is extremely addicting and well done that I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I've never seen anything like it before and I've already got the next one to read! I give this story five wonderfully deserved stars!

* This book was received in exchange for an honest review. I was a little leery to read this book as it contains explicit sex scenes, which I was not aware of when I agreed to review this book. That being said I never go back on my word to an author so I just took a deep breath and started reading. Not considering the sex scenes this story was actually a very sweet love story. Overall I did like the storyline. Gods and goddesses twisting and turning the human experience to meet their wants and desires is tale as old as time itself. Aphrodite is one of my favorite characters from Greek mythology. How could you not love the goddess of love? In this story Aphrodite is find herself pitted against Ares, the god of war, in her struggle to bring two souls, Robert and Rebecca, together as they are destined. Robert just happens to be the owner of a company that is developing a new weapon for the government and Ares does not want love getting in the way of its development. It is quite entertaining to see Aphrodite and Ares try to outmaneuver each other. The story goes back and forth between Aphrodite and Ares and the human world where Rachel and Robert are blissfully unaware of the meddling of the gods. Needless to say the road to happiness is not smooth for Rachel and Robert. He is dealing with business problems caused by moving his company all the way across the country. Rachel also has her share of problems, like her crazy ex that likes to stalk her whenever a new guy comes in to her life. The closer she and Robert become the crazier her ex becomes. Overall this is a good book when you exclude the sex scenes. I do wish the author would have added a little more explanation as far as the Greek mythology is concerned. I do not remember much more than the basics from school so it would have been nice to have a little more understanding of their story. It is a short read but still has enough going on that you don’t feel deprived and you can't help but be drawn in to Robert and Rebecca’s story, all the while hoping that true love will conquer all. I read an excerpt for the second book and it sounds just amazing as the first, but unfortunately I will be skipping it as it also contains explicit sex. If you don’t mind that sort of thing in the books that you read then I would highly recommend it.

I really liked this quick little steamy read. Sure it was totally an insta-romace, but at around 50 pages what do you expect. The God, Aphrodite and Ares, was an interesting angle and I enjoyed watching them fight over the fate of these two souls. Rebecca and Robert were a good match and it was a sweet way they came together. A little stalkerish and chop full of assumptions on both sides, but hey its a story. I will most definitely check out the next in this series. I would like to see what happens next in this world.

Very short! Sweet, but lacking. Could've been so much better.

Predictable and nothing original. It moves too quickly even for such a short story. Gave up before finishing jh

This was a fun story. I could not stop smiling. Just enough humor mixed with some steamy bedroom (and kitchen) scenes. Toss in a touch of action and you have a great recipe for a fun short story. Great job Krystal Shannon. I look forward to reading more!

Open House by Krystal Shannan is a cute little novella. The idea behind the plot is interesting and I am excited to read more. Basically, the Greek mythologies are watching and playing in today's realm. It should be loads of fun to follow.

Open House is book one in the Pool of Souls series by Krystal Shannan. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review. This is a short story about how the deities are battling to control us humans here on earth. Aphrodite, the God of Love, and Ares, the God of War, have a love hate relationship of their own. Right now they are battling over whether or not the souls of Robert Corvin and Rebecca Carol will be allowed to bond. Robert and Rebecca met back in high school. Robert was a nerdy student and Rebecca was a cheer leader. They both felt mutually attracted to each other but neither of them admitted it to one another. Ares intervened after high school, wanting Robert for his own purposes, and aimed him towards MIT and Rebecca went a different direction. Ten years later, their souls which are destined for one another, have another chance. Aphrodite knows that these two souls are the perfect match and she helps their paths to cross once again, giving them the second chance they need to reestablish what once could have been. But Ares is having none of it and throws as many obstacles in their paths as he can. Rebecca is now a Realtor and Robert a multi-millionaire. Rebecca is sure that Robert doesn’t even remember her when she meets with him to show him a house in Houston where she just happens to live. But Robert knew all along that she was here and knew that he just had to have her in his life. He can’t explain the pull he feels towards her but knows he doesn’t want to fight it. The question is, can Rebecca and Robert make it through all the road blocks Ares tries to put in their paths or will true love, souls that are the perfect match, finally be allowed to bond together as they were intended? Book two in this series is called Finding Hope where Ares and Aphrodite find a new couple to torment and fight over.

Open House is Krystal Shannan's first book in her Pool of Souls series. Open House features real estate agent Rebecca Carol and businessman Robert Corvin. And of course mythological gods Ares and Aphrodite. I am a huge fan of mythology so I was very happy to read a romance story with a blend of mythology and modern life.  I really enjoyed how Krystal handled the mythological characters. It is hard to be unique when retooling mythology but I thought Krystal did an awesome job. Loved the plot and the characters. Highly recommend!

Greek mythology with a new perspective. Romance at its best!  Aphrodite is the keeper of soul mates reuniting them her only objective. But can she find her own soul mate with Ares?  Read this book I find out!!!

I adored this story. It was short, well written and a joy to read. It’s funny, exciting and has a great paranormal flair. Rebecca is a smart, lively, pretty and a very determined woman. I enjoyed the way finding out that her old flame is the one looking a house flustered her a bit. Robert is the perfect hero, he’s successful, good looking, and carrying a torch for his old flame. I enjoyed the twist of Aphrodite and Ares and the way they influenced things. I highly recommend this story.

While this story had a few rough spots, I enjoyed it. It was a nice little twist to the story and I enjoyed the light hearted feel it held. There was a lot of jumping between the gods and goddesses, and the main characters, but it was sweet. There wasn't much build up in the way of the characters. However, the story was sweet and happy and that's why it gets 4 stars.

In the spirit of full disclosure I received this free e-book as a prize during the release party. Ares has always been my favorite of the Greek Gods legends. I’ve always liked a man who knows how to fight. So, when I read Ares was in the description I chose this book. I adore how Aphrodite handles Ares in this book. Ares and Aphrodite’s love quarrel was cute. Their cat and mouse game was highly entertaining. Rebecca and Robert have history together, but nothing of a romantic history. I adored the way they remembered each other and their interactions with each other are sweet. I enjoyed the fast paced plot and watching the characters play off one another. I’m glad that Robert and Rebecca found each other again. The characters felt real, the plot was entertaining. Over all I enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to reading the next one

I'm not normally a fan of novellas. I find that authors start with the best of intentions but they try to pack so much story into such a compact number of pages that something always suffers. Whether it's the storyline coming across rushed, the romance seeming forced or the characters not having enough time to fully develop, something has to give and no author who writes novellas is immune to this. I can happily say though that after reading Open House my feelings may have changed. Ladies and gentlemen... this is how a novella is written. Shannon took the time to fully develop each character to the point where you feel you know them and are invested in their stories (which I hope will continue). We are given a hint of a back story for Ares and Aphrodite which explains their feelings towards each other without veering off the romance developing between Rebecca and Robert. Fantastic world building rounded off a phenomenal book. This is one novella that I can say was exactly as it was meant to be and I wouldn't change a thing.

This is the second book I have read for this author and I must say I am very pleased. I really enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to read the next book in the series. Ms. Shannan grabbed my attention from the very first line and I just could not wait to see how it was going to end. This was a delightful read with a very unique plot. This was an easy read and was very fast paced. The love scenes were hot and steamy.  Character development was good and I was able to connect to the main characters and it was easy to understand what they were both going through.  I really enjoyed Open House and I would definitely recommend it to readers who are looking for a short and satisfying romantic read.

Robert returns to Texas to reunite with Rebecca an old HS crush. Unknown to him or Rebecca, two greek gods are using them in their argument. Though a quick read lots of plot & details are packed in. Can't wait to read book 2!
