Applied Sufism frames the teachings of Sufism in the form of a response to those seeking a whole and integral path, a unity of form and meaning, and intimate knowledge of God. The intimate portrayal of conscience afforded the reader in the exposition of these principles imbues these lectures with a light that is at once familiar and rare. In short, Shaykh Ahmed Abdur Rashid, as an exemplar and spiritual mentor, and in his teaching legacy has provided us with timeless criteria, clear and coherent, of the theoretical and practical aspects of the timeless spiritual discourse of traditional Islam.

Written by Shaykh Ahmed Abdur Rashid, an authorized Shaykh of five Sufi Orders, I found that this book explains, shows how Sufic principles can be lived in day to day life, bringing a deep spirituality into life, by going into depth on such topics as dhikr, meditation, tasawwuf in Islam, and how to look at and refine oneself. It is addressing seekers of truth, and Shaykh Rashid balances his discourse with supporting Hadith and Qur'an, offering in some places, techniques and du'as. It is actually a compilation of individual lectures, and there are glossaries, notes and citations that accompany, not all, but some of chapters. A brief description of the author is given and an introduction by Dr. Kenneth Honerkamp. Shaykh Rashid writes his own preface, speaking of his own journey and his intention behind this book. Really a must for students or seekers and those just curious.
