Applying God's Word
Today's young people face major crises concerning who they are and who they can trust. The emotional fallout of broken family relationships has left many teenagers without a clear understanding of who they are and where they belong in this chaotic world. In addition, corruption within the ranks of religious and political leaders has propelled many teenagers toward a cautious cynicism about matters of faith.
Fortunately, God's Word is sufficient to meet any crisis. Through the Bible, young people can learn to distinguish not only right from wrong, but also "good" authority from "bad" authority. They can look in the Scriptures to discover God's true character and recognize that they're created in his image. Ultimately, they can discover God's love and realize that God desires to live in relationship with them.
In Applying God's Word, senior high students will discover why it's important to read the Bible and will be inspired when they see how relevant it is to their lives. In the first study, teenagers will experience firsthand that the Bible is not just an old book-it's actually a way God can communicate personally with them! By studying Scripture passages through which God directly addresses many of the feelings and situations they face in everyday life, students will come to appreciate the Bible in a new way.
Teenagers will compare biblical values with the values of popular culture in the second study and will explore creatively how the Bible provides solid guidance for living. They'll uncover important character traits described in the Bible and will commit to grow in at least one of those areas.
In the third study, students will examine some of those sticky "gray areas" in life-behaviors and situations the Bible doesn't address specifically. Through investigation of one of Paul's significant teachings, teenagers will establish ways to apply biblical principles to life's murky or confusing situations.
The final study emphasizes the point that the Bible is more than just a
prescription for living-it is an avenue of spiritual growth. Young people will
research several significant passages about Jesus and will come to understand
that studying God's Word will help them grow closer to Christ. As a result,
they'll commit to a week of daily personal Bible study.
The Bible is God's Word to this generation of young people-just as it has been for the generations before them. The more your students understand about the Bible, the better equipped they'll be to live as God's people in the real world.
