This splendid book is a must have for anyone who loves Ancient Greek sculpture. All the known Archaic maidens (korai) are featured in numerous photographs including many excellent color plates. Almost every aspect of the korai is covered except, oddly enough, their clothing which is a major aspect of these works of sculpture. Although it was not meant as a replacement for Gisela M.A. Richter's 1968 catalog of korai, so much more material is featured here it would have been nice to have a catalog with simple entries. As it is, basic information about any particular kore is scattered throughout the book. I do agree most strongly with the author's conclusion that the figures were portraits of young women.
