About the Author

A native of the Cleveland area, Dik Daso is a 1981 USAF Academy graduate of Cadet Squadron 31, "The Grim Reapers." His flying career began as a T-38 Talon instructor pilot at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. He then flew two tours in the RF-4C Phantom, stateside and in Korea. He also flew the F-15 Eagle for a short tour before finishing his master's of arts in American revolutionary period history at the University of South Carolina (USC) in Columbia. He taught military and world history at his alma mater during the 1992-93 school year. A unique set of circumstances allowed him to return to USC, home of the Gamecocks, where he completed his doctorate in military history in March 1996. During 1995, he served as the historian for the most recent Air Force science and technology study, New World Vistas, where he edited the "Ancillary" volume (14) of the study. He has also published articles in the USAF professional magazine, Airpower Journal. Currently, Dik Daso is a member of the Air and Space Operations Directorate in the Air Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
