Interesting that Queen Elizebeth was the last of the major Protestant players. The Prince of Orange was murdered by the King of Spain, Philip the Second. And Liz beheaded Mary Queen of Scots a "royal" pain in the a** because Mary was Catholic and ambitious. I learned so much and the pieces fit nicely. Funny that the Spanish tried to keep the Armada secret: thousands of infantry, hunderds of cavalry, ships, cannon, food, etc.

A literary masterpiece--the definitive narrative about the great naval battle between England and Spain in 1588. It reads like an adventure novel, while exploding the myths and legends which have overshadowed the voyage of the Armada for over four centuries now. A must-read for any lover of history.

This book was was well written, almost read like a novel at times. It was painstakingly researched and it shows. He does a great job explaining the circustances and events leading to the actual battle. He does a fantastic job on the battle itself. A must read for the history buff or history professor...anyone can read this book.
