In THE ARMADA, Garrett Mattingly has written far more than a history of the defeat of the Spanish fleet in 1588. Meticulous in describing its disastrous fate, he also discusses the profound effects of Philip's decision on every kingdom in Europe. A Book Society choice in England, a selection of the History Book Club and Book-of-the-Month Club in the United States, THE ARMADA received the National Book Award for non-fiction and a Pulitzer special citation.
