Arts and Literature in the Middle Ages based on 0 ratings. 1 reviews.
Arts and Literature in the Middle Ages is an excellent basic introduction to the legacy of art and stories left by medieval artisans. After a brief explanation of the time period, Marc Cels discusses the architecture, sculpture, stained glass and mosaics, metalwork, and tapestries of the time in addition to the more widely known paintings, books, and epic poetry and song. The book is vividly illustrated with photographs, samples of medieval art, and modern drawings, and the accompanying text is brief and concise. Cels does occasionally mention art and literature from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, but most of his focus remains in Europe. A glossary and index complete this volume of Crabtree Publishing Company's Medieval World series.
