About the Author

Called "master of the existential thriller" by BBC, "one of America's best thriller writers" by Culture Buzz, and "one of the 21st century's most exciting authors" by the Washington Times, Mike Bond is a best-selling novelist, war and human rights journalist, and environmental activist. He has covered guerrilla wars, death squads, and military dictatorships in Latin America and Africa, Islamic terrorism in the Middle East, and ivory poaching and other environmental battles in East Africa and Asia.

His critically acclaimed novels take the reader into intense situations in the world's most perilous places, into wars, revolutions, dangerous love affairs and political and corporate conspiracies, making "readers sweat with [their] relentless pace." (Kirkus) and drawing them "into a land and a time I had not known but left me with my senses reeling." (NetGalley Reviews)

His books have been named among the best of the year by reviewers and readers alike. He speaks multiple languages, has climbed and trekked over 50,000 miles on every continent from the Antarctic to Siberia, and is at home in some of the most primitive and dangerous places on the planet.

I enjoy Mike Bond novels - without exception. They are versatile and timely and always of interest. This one was a compelling read, at times spine tingling and often with a smear of horror in the back of your mind. I kept hope hope hoping that the US involvement in the middle eastern political shenanigans was greatly exaggerated but a little research made that doubtful. I was much more complacent before this read, but am very glad that I read it. Keep them coming, Mike Bond. I received a free electronic copy of this novel from Netgalley, Mike Bond, And Mandevilla Press in exchange for an honest review. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me.

I wanted to like this book but I felt like I was coming into the story-line midway through, having no idea who was where and doing what and why. The characters were flat and uninteresting and the pace of the action was almost too the author was rushing toward something that, unfortunately never arrived at because I could not read any more. I mean, this supposedly close-knit secret unit deploys and one of them is killed immediately and barely a word is said about it. Overall I felt like it lacked 'life' and it definitely lost my attention (and I really tried to get through it). It's unfortunate because the writing was not 'bad', just lacking all the necessary information to make it interesting and to draw the reader in.
