Overview

Asylum by Lily White

Words are funny things.

Their meaning, the pictures they paint in the minds of those that hear them: theyre not always the same and to me at least, that makes them meaningless.

Take for instance the phrase black widow. Those words conjure the image of a spider, an eight-legged creature with the red imprint of an hourglass on its abdomen.

However, instead of speaking of an arachnid, of the resident of a spindly and dew-laden web, the people who whisper those words are talking about something much different.

Theyre talking about me.

From what Im told, Im called the Black Widow because no man Ive ever loved has survived.

Yet, I have no memory of any of it.

My new home leads me to the definition of another vague and meaningless word.

Its a place where Im supposed to seek refuge.

A place of retreat and security.

Its a place where Im supposed to be kept safe because Im sick.

But the definition for this place is wrong and the word becomes meaningless when youre tucked away and made silent by drugs and pretty white jackets.

My name is Alexandra Sutton and this is the story of what happened when I was imprisoned inside an Asylum.

I was gifted a copy of this book for a honest review. I love all of Lily's books but this one 'wow' it's for me the best by far definately earning her the title  Mistress of Mindf#@kery. It's Unique, Dark, Twisted, Psycological, full of unexpected twists and turns and one hell of a rollercoaster ride. From the first page I was pulled into the characters, some to love, some to hate, and the story was so descriptive I almost felt I was there in the Institute!! This for me is the book of 2014, an absolute must read,I assure you, you will not be disappointed. There are not enough stars for this book.********************************************

This one has my mind going in circles! I am a lover of all things Lily White, and I have to say this one takes the cake! It has got to be her darkest to date, and keeps your mind reeling! An amazingly different story line, that seriously will keep you guessing until the last 3 pages! As usual, she has kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. You have done it again, Lily!! AMAZING!!!

+ Crazy Stars Ok... It took a few days but I think I can now form more than a few words at a time to express my feelings of this book. My jaw was dropping to the floor within the first few pages. Alex is so broken and so confused that the days all blend together. Not having any idea why she has been named the Black Widow she puts her trust into someone who claims can help her. Dr. Hutchins....sigh (If I ever go to a happy place someone please order me a Dr. Hutchins to care for me. Thanks in advance) Any way back to what I was saying. Dr. Hutchins claims he can help Alex. Help to free her mind of the the hidden memories of the crimes she committed. He thinks he has the skills and knowledge to help her. With so few people for Alex to trust she immediately takes a liking to him. (So did I :) ) Along the journey of her trying to become cured of an illness that has haunted not only her but her brother Dain as well we meet some very.....interesting occupants of the Asylum. The stories of why these woman are at Statham could only be made up by the Mistress of Mind fuc$ery herself Lily White. I couldn't help but try to imagine what these woman have done and continue to do. And I couldn't do it. I just couldn't. Dr. Hutchins and Alex take a journey to help what plagues Alex and her mind. This book has so many unique elements to it that I had to read it twice just to let it all soak in and to make sure i wasn't missing anything. When I finally think I have it figured out........Bamn Up in smoke my theories went. I am a HUGE fan of Lily Whites. But this book? Asylum? This has officially made me want to stalk her and maybe take up residence in her mind for a few hours. (Any longer than that and i may never wanna leave) This by far is My Favorite of Lilys! Fantastic job Lily White aka Mistress of Mind Fuc$ery

Ever wonder if you’re just a little crazy?...This book will make you feel so much better!! I love Lily White and fall more in awe with her talent through each passing book!! There was so much build up to this book release, and the bits and pieces I saw from the teasers had me on the edge of my seat...then there was the question of could this book look just too good to be true? The answer to that question is Hell No!! This story lived up to and at some points way exceeded what I had conjured in my head. I'm not one to rehash the stories in my reviews so let me just say that Lily has raised the bar yet again. This story took you through so many twists and turns, not to mention what your own head comes up with when trying to figure out who the real bad guys are. Ms. White may have taken liberties with the clinical accuracies of this story but if even a shred of what she has written actually takes place nowadays it makes for a horrifying story, add to that the twisted ideas that meander through her mind and you have a perfect recipe for sick and twisted. If that is your cup of tea, and given that you are reading this review I'd say it is... you need to buy this book and tell your friends it's a must-read... I do.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review. Once again another brilliant book from the fabulous Lily White. Asylum is a mind bending story about a girl named Alex aka Black Widow who is locked up in a mental institution for murder. Along the way we are introduced to Jeremy her doctor who has taken a special interest in her and her case while trying to help her make sense of what happened that caused her not to remember these crimes she is accused of. I loved the way this was written, it felt like putting a puzzle together piece by piece. I never knew what was going to happen next. This was a fun, sexy, dark and twisted story that kept me on the edge of my seat and in the end I thought I was going to require a straight jacket. If you are looking for a excellent read, look no further this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.

Lily’s ability to transcend your mind into a never-ending pit of despair and depravity astounds me every time I reach the last page of another one of her stories. Seriously, it takes me days to comprehend and recover enough to write my review…EVERY SINGLE TIME! I honestly don’t see how my book whore life was complete before I started reading the creations of this woman! Wow…just amazing…a total emotional whirlwind that will leave you feeling used, abused, and satisfied, and completely sated all at once.  Before I even begin to coagulate coherent thoughts about this book know that it is DARK, SEXUAL, VIOLENT, and a potential trigger for anyone with a past of sexual abuse. It is intended for ADULTS…I use the term loosely because not all of us over 18 can handle adult-like situations…if this is you, walk away from my review now…if so, welcome to the Lily train of darkness my lovelies! SO…Alex…poor girl…she is accused of murdering 2 of her lovers and is now in a mental institution where the patients are obviously crazy, and the majority of the staff are their own type of evil. She has no memory of her supposed crimes…or the fact that she has been in the institution for years. With her brother’s regular visits he seems to be the only one who believes her, and the nice nurse Terrie who takes care of her…until Dr. Hutchins arrives. Though she can’t explain it, she also can’t deny the things the simplicity of his voice does to her but more importantly he truly seems to believe her and want her to rediscover her memories.  Life in an asylum is a daily struggle when you are stuck in a place where society has forgotten about you and are given a steady stream of drugs to keep you complacent…especially when some of those who are supposed to care for you have everything but that their mind.  Not everyone is what they seem in the best of places…but when you can’t even trust your own mind what chance do you have to come out of a terrible situation unscathed? This book had so many different twists and turns between the staff, the patients, and the struggles Alex was having with her own memories and hallucinations that you are constantly wondering if what you read was really happening or not. Finally, just when you think things are going to work out the right way Lily throws a curve ball that makes you question everything you thought, everything she wrote, and everything you read…then to quickly go find your own therapist because you just need to know how and why! I have said it before and I will say it again…I FLOVE Lily White! Since I picked up Her Master’s Courtesan that first time she has not disappointed me with anything she has written and only gets better. Seriously, I am not sure I know how she will top this one and can’t wait to see the surprises she has in store for me with her next releases! If you haven’t read this…and you are not a big whiney baby who is easily offended… you NEED to go one-click this crazy concoction of a tale RIGHT NOW!!! You won’t regret it, I promise!!!
